Green Blob ... not just the M8

No, I don't have an M8, don't plan to buy one, etc.

I was just looking through some folders of photos on my PC, and noticed a "green blob" in a digi shot from my lowly Olympus C2000. Well whaddya know? The shot was sized and sharpened, otherwise no other processing. WB was auto, mixed lighting.

It is called flare. It happens when light is reflected between the lens elements.

I can see that it could be flare ... but I've not see it in any ohter shots with this camera, including those with a light source in the frame. Thanks. And BTW, I do know the definition of flare.

The green blobs of international notoriety were mirror images exactly horizontally across the sensor face, caused by when the widgets got shoved in the framinjantz. Yours doesn't display this quality.

More specifically, it looks like filter flare. Did you have a filter on the camera or is there a filter built in?

I think it's an internal reflection. Either inside the lens, or from (inside) the filter back into the lens.

Rex: Nope, no filter. I don't use filters on this camera except when I use a close-up attachment. I'm not worried about it, I was just surprised when I saw it. I may have had the filter adapter tube (CLA-1, I think it is) on at the time, I can't recall. But definitely no filter mounted.

The reason I asked about a filter is your particular flare looks like the reflection off the back side of a flat surface. Note that the green image is exactly the same size as the ;ight source bit inverted. If it were lens flair the image would generally be smaller and more intense.
