Hi all,

I am this (pinch thumb & finger) close away to winning a nice little Olympus 35SP on an 'auction' site. I read up on these and decided it would be so much fun to own/have/use one.

Up until now, I only have experience in SLR (OM-1) and DSLR (KM 7D), and limited exposure to a Voigtlaender Vitomatic IIA (inherited from my grandfather) - i will link to pictures later today. The IIa was a pleasure - albeit strangely complicated after the technical wizzardry of the brilliant KM7D.

I hope this 35SP - and a future canonet G-III - will become daily shooters, constant at hand and easy to carry - with nice Tri-X or T-Max film in it for great grain and constrastdetail to die for.

Did I already said I was enthousiast?

Regards, 1015

Welcome to RFF and welcome to the hallowed halls of Olympus 35SP-dom. You will love the camera; it is indeed easy to keep at hand.

I won my SP last month(+QL 17, which I send to CLA), it's very nice camera.
Still shooting my first roll on it, looking forward to see first results.
EV metering is interesting, but still not comfortable enough for me, maybe later:)

welcome to the club! :p

I'm sure you will also fall in love with this incredibly old camera and lens!

I was in your position a couple months ago and now I stand to welcome you to the wonderful Zuikography using the outstanding 35 SP. I'm still looking for a good-looking wrist strap for my 35 SPn :)

BTW, my favorite pictures from my 35SPn comes from using expired Ilford XP2-Super.

Shadow: I have a Gordy strap on one of my SPs, works just fine for me. I wasn't in love with it when I first got it, but it has grown on me.

I have won the camera ... total including shipping will set me back 70 something euro's, but the condition is short of mint, and I hope technically sound. Now I have to wait ... should be late this week (aka tomorrow) or somewhere beginning of next week.

I got the camera in - fairly good shape, although I am not qualified to make that assessment.

Enjoy:

More eyecandy will come here when I test it in the coming days.

I loaded it with TriX 400. If you see a nutcase in Antwerp, in between Antwerp or Brussels, or in Brussels with a 30 year old RF in his hands frolicking with joy and pleasure ... bet you're money on it, it's me.

Yes, I thought it looked familiar already. I'd love to get a square/rectangular hood though.
I got the camera with an additional leather replacement set from cameraleather, I will do the swap later on, when I feel like - potentially - messing it up. Anybody have experience in that?

I have a rectangular hood (somewhere!) that I kept on one of the SPs, but it blocks more of the VF, so I've kept with the OM hoods; I typically use the metal ones.

I had John do apply the leather on the SP I had re-covered, so I don't have direct experience. I don't think it's too difficult; the body is pretty simple.

OK, this is the last one, but I love the atmosphere - and indeed the hood looks very nice.

Subscript:
Damn, this thing looks good.
Damn, I still love my KonMinolta D7 with a 50mm prime (cursing in the church I know)

1015: You gave me an idea :) don't know why I didn't think about using the OM rubber hood on it, I already use a 49mm UV filter to protect the lens :p

BTW, nice shot of the 35 SP, that reminds me, I have to do a shot of my SPn with a good background, I shoot a lot with it and forgot to take a picture of it :)

OK, the first film of Tri-X has been shot, developed and quickly scanned. Best of the crop:

First conclusions:
* they still need some editing on contrast & so forth, this is the raw materials from the scanner.
* I need much more film to get to grips with this camera, I believe you can do great things with this one.
* love this cam. period.
* sorry for the religiously inspired topic - dont mean to offend anyone.

You can find the full set here.

Well, if these are raw photos ... I can't wait for the finessed ones ;)

These are fantastic samples, very well done :) May I ask what developer?

cheers

Wow, just great. I especially like the first one; that is a very sweet photo. It's a great, great camera, and it's in good hands here.

Dear 1015,
Thank you for joining RFF. I am sure you will be enjoying it a lot. An for our new Olympus forum, it is a double gain to have another SP user among us.

Looking backwards at my SP, it is worth to notice not only its outstanding sharpness, but also the fact that over more that a decade, mine never went jammed, nor misaligned.

Cheers,
Ruben

interesting... I always though that 35SP has high res-low contrast signature, but your samples aer quite contrasty. Has anything to do with own development?
