I am looking at buying some,,,,,,,,,,,,, NOOKY....





For an Elmar 50mm or a 50mm Summar.. How close can you get? Do they Work well? Blah Blah Blah....

A Nooky or Nooky-Hesum?

EDIT: Nooky is for Elmar, No0ky Hesum is for the Summar/Hektor. Both have the RF correction optics.

NOOKY Near-focusing device for 5 cm Elmar, introduced in 1935. "Elmar 5 cm" engraved. Since 1939, engraved scale with reproduction ratios.
NOOKY-HESUM As NOOKY, but for Hektor 5 cm and Summar 5 cm (names of lenses engraved). Since 1939, additional engraving "Summitar 5 cm" and scale as in NOOKY.

I'll look it up in my Morgan and Lester when I get home. Funk and Wagnell won;t have it.

I don't know how well they work, but my Leica Manual says that the closest you can get to something is 16".

Hello:

I understand it as the code for one of several Leitz close focusing devices. The precusor to the mount and spectacles of the DR Summicron. They work as does the Summicron.

According to The Leica Book by Theo Kisselbach, with the NOOKY (for 50mm Elmars), and NOOKY-HESUM (for 50mm Summitars, Summars, or Hektors), "The Focusing range is changed to 1m to 44cm. (40" to 17-3/4")". The SOOKY (for the 50mm Summicron) changes the focussing range of the Summicron to 1m to 50cm. (40" to 20"). All provide full parallax compensation in the viewfinder.

I wonder if Leica has a patent on close focus devices, as they do on rangefinder viewfinder magnifiers (although wouldn't those patents have expired long ago?). I think it would be cool if, for instance, CV made a similar device for the collapsible Heliar, but with adjustable eyes, so it could be used on any screw or M mount camera.

Skinny McGee, according to 12th Edition of Morgan & Lester's New Leica Manual (1951) when you focus directly with a 50mm lens you can focus within 3.5 feet of the object.

They added that when you use the Nooky or the Nooky-Hesum optical short-distance focusing devices between the lens mount and the camera the distance between the filmplane and the object varies from 42 to 16.5 inches...

They further say that when you use the Focaslide with extension tubes, the lens to object distance can be reduced to less than one inch.

They have several additional pages of information about the subject, with tables and three pages of mathematical formulae...
