So I've screwed in the jupiter8, loaded a kodak tmax400 roll.....and now I'll go to have a little ride with my bike and take some photos.

Congratulations!

The same starter set as mine (Bessa + J-8). I added J-9 and CV 35/2.5 since, but I have shot most of my photos with the J-8. When properly adjusted it's a great lens...

Have fun with the Bessa! The R is a solid performer. You'll likely be happy for quite some time. Share the results when you get the chance.

The Bessa viewfinder really is a revelation compared to FSU cameras and the pre-war offerings of any RF camera manufacturer.

I'm pleased that so many recommend it. I hope you enjoy yours.
Mine arrived recently, no chance yet to put film through it, but at weekend I will get the chance.
Compared to my FEDs and Zorkis, the R is lighter and a little quieter (but not as quiet as my Kiev). I didn't like it at first. It's marginally bigger than the Zorki 6, but half the weight. Then I began to like it better. I didn't have a case for it and wondered how to keep it safe from dings and scratches. I tried it in my Zorki 4 case, and it fits! The tripod mount screw is in the right place. I just need to trim a little leather from the bottom of the lens cut out to clear the CV35 Skopar, change the top to bottom stud for a new popper stud and it will be just fine.
But the unexpected benefit was that the outfit now smells great hmmmmm. I like this camrea lots, so far.
Dave...
