No way of any hands on experience - so before I buy I was wondering what experience folks have had with the cover materials available a la carte on the MP. I sure wish I could get the feel of what other's have described as the "grippy" covering on the MP. Would the simulated Vulcanit be the most durable? Which surface??!! Help please. There are just no dealers within a reasonable driving distance - no hands on so purchase will be somewhat sight unseen. Many thanks.

I bought a used one, with the simple black vulcanit "leather".
It is good, it fits well but a real leather would be more comfortable to touch.
But at the end the best you can do is to go and get a luigi halfcase.
The camera body is better protectet, it has a better gripp at all and the design is absolutely outstanding.
You can buy at leicatime, one of "our" sponcors.
Best regards

At the price point of an ala carte MP, part of the fun has to be going out and trying the different options. Treat yourself to a trip to your nearest MP dealer and finger the body covering yourself. It's a small fraction of the total price of the gear, and you'll kick yourself later if you don't.

I purchased two a la carte MP's last year. One with red leather and the other with black ostrich. The red is smooth but the grip is excellent and the ostrich is just enough texture but still soft to the hand. I particularly love the ostrich over the vulcanite on my other M's.

I am about to try the Cameraleather.com "Griptac" covering--when it gets here-- on my Konica C35s.

Exposing since 1969.
For others' information the à la carte "lizard look black" on my 0.58X black paint M7 is very glossy, smooth and much less grippy than the real black lizard from Cameraleather I put on my standard M7. I use M-grips 95% of the time or the Motor M with grip, so I don't worry about he difference in slipperiness of the cover, but if you are going to use the camera naked, I would not pick "lizard look black." It looks very cool, though unnaturally uniform compared to real lizard. If the fake lizard starts to wear out I may convert it to real lizard or to Vulcanite.
