Hi,

as usual :)rolleyes:) I just played around with Leica's a la carte configuration. Today I tried two pretty plain versions with mocca and ostrich leather. What do you think?

OK, let's see you creations. ;)

How about a red one. My black one is black ostrich and black chrome with my signature on the back. Both are .85x. Love both of them and highly recommend the ostrich. Excellent to grip. It's hard to see the ostrich pattern here but it's sharp looking.

Very timely thread as I just heard yesterday or day before that Tony is shipping my m7 a la carte. I'll post some real pics when I get it but here is the pic from the configurator.

Black lens on a chrome body? Heresy!

Regardless, my .58 MP:

Young man mind your manners and respect your elders. :D When I was your age all I had was a Minolta SRT101 and a 4x5 Crown Graphic. Then three years later I had three M's, 7 Leica lenses and a visoflex. See what you have to look forward to. ;)

x-ray, your black MP looks awesome! I perhaps would only take it black painted, not in black chrome. Interestingly, the black ostrich looks totally different in your pic in comparison to the pics of the Leica configurator.

polarcow and erichaugsby, yours are also great looking. I think it's easier to achieve a "masterlook" with chrome M's, but you're unfortunately limited to chrome lenses.

Anyone got a black painted MP/M7 with non-black leather?

I think the black chrome MP looks pretty tasty and practical too. Its a shame they do not offer it as standard and an extra $240 for an angled crank is insane. I quite like the idea of 3 frames as the 28mm on the 0.72 finder of my MP is basically the outline so it is not really required for use, so you can still use 28,35,50 and 90 with a les cluttered view. As much as I would love a 75 cron, I cannot see myself carrying another 400gram lens and getting another filter size etc, so the 3 frame finder appeals.

Interesting to see what you guys have gone for...I like the simplicity of X-Rays but would perhaps have gone for the black calf skin.

A la carte aside, the MP has to be the best looking camera ever made. Not to mention th ebest feeling camera as well.

Ahh... you've lived the life, X-ray. At his age I had...err...not a clue. Still don't, but I have a few cameras to go with the cluelessness.

This week I got a "user" Speed Graphic; now how is this related to the Leica a la carte? I saw one the same day, all black, very nice, practically just like yours. I wonder if I should go that route some day.

I saw the option for antique leica engraving going for little as 200 euros! Is the standard MP engraving just a robot machine engraving?

Funny, it looks like my black chrome one. I could not afford an a la carte model so will settle for swamping out the film wind lever, frame selector lever and self timer lever for black chrome M3 style metal ones. Where there is a will there is a way.

Hi Bob,
How much would replacing stuff cost? I've thought about modifiying the the frame selector lever and self timer lever, but it's something I'd want to do myself. Is it tough to do?
