What is reasonable?????

I'm trying to figure out what a reasonable amount of time is to have to wait for a package that was sent first class. I ordered an M4-P from a nice collector/dealer on December 28, and apparently it was shipped first class December 29. Now this gentleman lives just outside of Philadelphia, which is no more than 90 miles from where I live in Baltimore. It still hasn't arrived. He said he would give me a refund if it didn't show up. How long should I wait before asking for my money back???

Yikes.. I've had some bad experiences with the post office, so I wouldn't use it to send anything worth more than like 20-30 bucks anymore. UPS and Fedex seem to be a lot better, and they have tracking numbers.

Only 90 miles away and you didn't drive to pick it up? You have a lot more patience than me 😛

btw, why not go in to your local post office and have them check in the back to make sure it didn't just get put there and somehow didn't get on the truck?

Better call this guy, and ask for a copy of the postal receipt. was it sent "Confirmed Delivery"

I had a Bessa R2 shipped from AZ. to IN (where I live) and it took 6 days total. it was shipped DHL Ground. Sig. Required.

He most know something if he is willing to refund your $$$ IMO

The Post office can track internally, but, it is not a fast nor good system.

Well, there can be delays, but his is getting long.

I sent a lens, USPS Priority mail with confirmation and insurance, to Joerg in Boston, close to 90 miles away.

I sent it on 12/29 and it arrived last Wednesday I think. That was in my mind an unacceptable amount of time for delivery.

Then he put an MO in the mail to me on Saturday and it arrived on Monday. So the mail system can work.

I would at least be in touch with the seller and start talking about tracking that package.

Most postal systems are only now recovering from the festive season, when they give preference to post cards. 2 weeks is a long period for such a short distance but, considering the season, I'm not surprised. Yet, no use in delaying action any longer. Get talking, get tracking (if possible), and perhaps allow another 1-2 weeks for your parcel to arrive. After that, consider it lost in the mail and settle it with the seller.

As to the USPS - I find them very good and use them all the time for selling; regardless of item value.

What is surprising is that at a 90-mile distance your seller didn't use Priority Mail which would cost just about the same. Unlike First Class, Priority uses variable distance pricing - but that would be an immaterial difference at a 90-mile distance. Delivery time may be the same - but that Priority box seems to, well it seems to just get "priority"! 😉

Also, didn't your seller insure the item? When I sell I always get insurance - I don't even give the buyer the option of refusing it. If he did insure it - he should reimburse you and put in his claim. Watch out he doesn't try to make you wait until he gets reimbursed - why should you be out of pocket?

BTW, as to the PO getting over the holiday crunch - I ordered an item this past Tuesday that was delivered by US Mail on Friday.
