I got an offer for a Contax III + Sonnar 50 2.0 + Sonnar 135 4.0. Camera and lenses seem to be in excellent shape. Even the meter appears to be still active. Should I go for it...?

Depends on the offer. Selling or buying? How much money? Do you need the camera (or the money, if you're selling)?

Buying... and I don't really need the camera of course. This one would be mostly for fondling ;-)

as a new contax lla owner, i say go for it!

a well made and beautiful machine, hard to find anything finer to fondle.

Depends on price asked.

I agree with all Joe said .... except maybe the last bit! :D

Sounds really good. $100 for the lens, $100 for the body, and you get the tele lens for free.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll buy it. I recently got a IIa in excellent shape and indeed it's a beautiful camera with a huge fondling factor. How different is the even more classic III?

Damn ... at $200.00 it's a must.

My Contax IIa is by far my most fondled camera ... I haven't got around to taking any pics with it yet though .. oh well!

The III is a very different camera than the IIa. For one thing, it is larger, the rewind knob is very tall, and the camera has a larger "look". The IIIa is noticeably smaller than the III, and has a nice feel about it. The 4 models make an unbelievable group. They are also pricey to own in working order.
The meters on mine are never used, but I do like the look of the IIIa, and find that I use one most often of my Contax's.

Best thing... have all 4, next best... try all and pick the 1-2 you like best. Take your time, enjoy the hunt, and you'll love the end result.
