I don't see member donations or Premium Memberships as being necessary any longer to help run RFF, as sponsor and classified ads should more than cover the expenses.
Accordingly RFF donations will no longer be accepted, nor will new Premium Memberships be issued. Existing Premium Memberships will maintain the same benefits as before, until the membership expires. At that time, the Premium Membership will not be renewed.
As recognition to their help to RFF, Premium members will retain the Premium Membership Icon as a momento of RFF's early days, even after the Premium Membership is expired.
Thanks to all for supporting RFF!

Hey Stephen! I'm glad to hear RFF should be sufficiently supported through ads, though I didn't mind contributing either.
Just for my information, is there any way to tell how much time is left on a premium membership? I don't know if a way currently exists to determine that.
Also, are the photo upload opportunities now the same for premium members/non-premium? I'm just curious as to whether storage space, file size, or number of images per day will be affected at all.
Thanks!

I liked the membership. It was cost effective for me in regard to the classifieds as I have placed a bunch and a 2 bucks an add it would cost me more then joining. I like that if I wanted to fire in an add I didn't have to pay each time.

I never liked the 2-tier membership structure and said so back then, so thank you Stephen! I would like to suggest that the premium membership icons be removed. Justice and equality for all!
Wow, this is a change! I agree with FrankS...CameraQuest said:I don't see member donations or Premium Memberships as being necessary any longer to help run RFF, as sponsor and classified ads should more than cover the expenses.

Does this mean that the benefits of premium membership will no longer exist or that all users will inherit the benefits regardless of status?
If it's being taken away, isn't that sort of a step backwards?

Travis, the benefits will remain until your annual subscription runs out. There will be some melding of benefits as time goes on and changes are made. Stephen has been very responsive to the suggestions of the members, increasing mailbox sizes and image upload sizes, any changes that will be made I am sure will be positive for all, and for you and other folks who have been able to offer support to the site in the past another thank you, and rest assured, your benefits will not be changed before the laps in your subscription.

D'oh!
I like the direction that Stephen is going. I've seen several sites wither away after they were sold and converted to subscription only. The real value of the site is in everyone contributing knowledge and time. Anything that might lessen those contributions would lower value.

FWIW I asked for no icons but was given them anyway...

I agree with FrankS: take away the premium member designation when their premium membership expires.
Go right over to single tier.
Let the advertising pay for the site.

Let's not even wait for premium memberships to expire, please remove those 3 stars now, at least from my name.

Rover,
Good to hear. The announcement sounded positive but it made me scratch my head when I realized there was no mention of whether those things like increased mailbox size etc would become commonplace or whether they would go away.
Thank you for the reply!

I just checked. My dinky limit of 20 mailbox messages grew again back to 100. I have to say, that's welcome. It was annoying to have the limit reduced, and to then have to eliminate some saved messages just to find out what someone was trying to PM me about.

May be someone should remove the link in the FAQ section.

Thank you Stephen.
Correct me if I misunderstood, but this means that everyone will now have to pay to list items in the classifieds (once premium members' memberships expire)?
Or were you referring to sponsors and classified ads from sponsors as the main source of RFF revenue?
