focus was on the pedestrian

Joe, I'm relieved to see no evidence of front/back focusing with your lens. :)

Here's another of mine, pretty sure this was wide open, focus on her necklace.

Looking good, Joe ... how does the lens "feel" in use ? I assume it has a shorter throw than classic Sonnar variants ?

Thanks,

Roland.

no front focus that i notice doug.

i like the feel of it rollie and the look of it on the camera, even though it is only a touch shorter than the 50/2 it seems much smaller.
i'm not familiar enough with the classics to know about any differences.

Thanks Joe. Sorry, should have been more specific: how does it compare to the Canon 50/1.5 (mechanically and size wise I mean) ?

Roland.

it feels very close to the canon lens, same squat size/shape etc.
the zm has the smoothness of a new lens which i like.

Good enough for me, just don`t forget ilfosol is very sharp developer it is ilfords rodinal :)

Vlad, no amount of acutance development would've compensated for focus miss.

LOL! As I've experienced too may times.

At the risk of being skewered by someone who doesn't "believe" in bokeh, I think the oof area is very, very nice. ;)

Certainly nothing wrong with this Sonnar. Maybe Reichman should rent your copy, Joe.

WOW! Nothing like a lens review to get folks going.

My own $.02 on this is that the ZM 50/1.5 is obviously a fine lens, and the focus shift we are talking about is fairly small - but real. The posted comments from Zeiss in the lens review cannot be ignored, nor can the comparison in the review to other lenses. The review is to be credited for thoroughness. The fact that Zeiss maintains they are deliberately going after an effect [could it be "The Glow"?] ;-) is fine with me - my only issue is that on their own blurb datasheet for the lens they make no reference to this; it seems to be a new marketing approach.

What I get out of what's been said so far is that I'll stick with my Nokton 50/1.5 for now and someday when my pocket book can afford it maybe buy the ZM as an alternative "effect" lens. Certainly both of my ZMs (35 and 50) give me a richness in color reproduction I don't get with other lenses and I expect this hold true with the 1.5 as well.

a couple more from the weekend farmer's market.
this was close to the front by the big windows with the sun streaming in.
