Looking to try band performance shots with my RF. At night. With stage lighting.
I have no brand preference so far, but I want very good to unbelievable flare resistance and reasonable sharpness.
I use an SLR of course and I have a Nikkor 20mm f3.5 with fantastic flare resistance, and if I could fit it on my Canon RF I would, but alas.. can't see any adapters for that combo.
One lens I saw on feebay, a Nikkor 3.5cm f2.5, is acknowledged as plenty sharp but has anyone any experience with its flare performance?

My ZMs are incredible. Dozens of shots striaght into the sun and no flare whatsoever...better than any lenses I have ever used in this regard, regadless of format. Can these be adapted? If not, the CV lenses might be a good bet..

I find the 35/1.7 Ultron pretty good, too.

what mount? leica thread mount?
in that case the ZM lenses are "out".
while i found few flare on the 1.9/28mm ultron, it exposed some strong coma, which was a bit disturbing as soon as light sources were inside the frame.
cheers,
sebastian

Be aware that every Soviet lens I've owned has terrible flare. The best is the Orion 28/6, but it's f/6.
The modern Voigtlaenders should have excellent flare resistance.
I shot the Nikkor 35/2.5 as part of a photojournalism kit about 15 years ago before getting the Nikkor 35/1.8. I don't recall any problems with flare. It's also an extremely sharp lens. But none of those 50-year-old lenses can be shot directly into the bright light the way a modern lens can. The modern internal coatings just make a big difference. On the other hand, modern lenses have a clinical sharpness/contrast balance whereas something like the 35/2.5 has an older look and lower contrast that give band and concert photos a more unique look.
Attaching a shot (plus a detail crop) to show how the Nikkor 35/2.5 handles strong backlight. I also regularly used yellow filter to boost contrast.

That's strange - I'm finding my Ultron 28 to be both very flare resistant and have minimal coma when shooting street scenes with many points of light at night. There's a few samples from last week in my gallery.

best bargain/performance balance in a fast, flare resistant wide I've found to be the CV 35 1.7 Ultron.
Size is nice, image quality is spectacular, flare resistance is very good.

ken, here is an example picture, showing the almost full moon over nightly venice. on the left side, the full frame, on the right side, the moon alone (roughly at 25%). if this is not coma, what is it?

Hmmm. I'm no optical engineer, but I think that's flare. I have always thought of coma as the butterfly-shaped distortion you see from points of light.
It's very likely I'm wrong.

Well thx all for your recommendations. The CV 35 1.7 looks a bargain, but the old nikkor looks good too.
hmmm -isn't shopping such fun?
