The Photoshop/Darkroom/Film Forum is very popular, but a bit confusing with over 1800 threads and over 22000 posts. Imagine how many posts there will be in 10 years! Hopefully we can do this once and not make anohter change in the forum for a long time.

I propose leaving the existing forum,
so people will be able to find the theads they already know, but adding 5 sub forums to make finding future topics a bit easier. Before someone complains some topics overlap, such is life. Just post to the forum you feel is best for your thread.

The proposed sub forums would be
1) Film
2) Wet Darkroom
3) Scanning (films and prints)
4) Software -- all photographic software of any kind
5) Digital Printing

Let people know your view by taking part in the poll.

Sounds good to me. It's always hard to make changes, especially with the legacy threads out there. Change is good if it lets us be more subject-organized in the future.
 
I would suggest three - 1. Film and developing, 2. Darkroom and printing, 3. Scanning, Photoshop & printing.

Wet Darkroom
Scanning, Software & Digital Printing (I prefer 'Hybrid,' but it hasn't caught on and 'Software' as opposed to 'Photoshop' which is an assumption)

Anything you decide is good for me but I will add some comments.

The five divides youve made are about right, When I come looking for software its a bore to dig through film threads and vice versa. Digital printing is going to get very busy in the next couple years too with so many new choices and the competition within the market. I dont really see it as a pie sliced into three peices but I will be reading through it as I try to get my head around these subjects whether it becomes 3 or 5 subdivisions.


Is there anyway to make it 5 forums but have one forum that has the new posts combining all five just as the main forum does? Just a thought.
 
I like the idea of splitting them up whether it be 3 or 5.

Just split off the didi stuff.

It takes too long to go thru all kinds of sub forums. We could have one on film development, black white printing, color printing, warm tone paper, toning, and it gets rediculous. There are too many now.
 
I feel it should be split into two only if it should be split at all.

Traditional processes (including film processing and printing)
Digital processes (scanning, software manipulation, inkjet printing, monitor profiling, etc, etc, etc)

On the whole though I don't think the traffic in this sub-forum really warrants a change.

I think Mark's suggestion is right - traditional and digital darkroom.
 
I would take more interest in these forums if they were split. There is simply too much information to put only into two.The 5 suggested would make it simpler to find and share information.

The 5 sound good.

While it looks to be too much when discussing, it does make a difference when you're searching. Of course, it won't do much good if people don't post in the right forum to begin with.
 
I like the idea of a traditional/digital split, but I would also suggest a separate forum for film, as I find myself searching for threads about specific film all the time.

film (characteristics, usage, recommendation, comparison, storage, sample pictures)
traditional darkroom (processing, wet printing)
digital (scanning, PSing, ink jet printing, photoblogging)
 
If there are to be changes, then I agree with several of the others to split it into Traditional and Digital. I kind of like having things mixed together. It makes me want to mix up some chemistry and develop some film.
