Film is the other way
Does anyone know what has happened to the MF forum. It was the best resource on the net for MF photography, now it is "temporarily disabled" and a message page displays the dreaded

I noticed that a week or so ago. It seems to me this has happened before; I don't know whether he needs to find a new host or what. I hope it doesn't go away, since there's tons of info there. His Third Party SLR Lens page is quite informative also.

Hi Nick.. the first time it sort of "disappeared" was when he had it hosted by his 'employer' SMU / Southern Methodist University. I think he then set it up on his own using the url of http medfmt 8k com
That site is one of the biggest repositories of MF info I know of. I'm hopeful it doesn't disappear, it would be a huge loss to the MF world!

The site is archived on the Internet Archive. You can get there thru the WayBack Machine at:
http://www.archive.org/index.php
just enter the URL and wait a few seconds:
http://medfmt.8k.com/mf/index.html
The last updqate was April 2006.

Paul, I've used the wayback machine before.. didn't think of it. However I'd like to see it as a live site for all the obvious reasons. Thanks for your help on that

Agree, I've been seeing that huge site online since I don't even remember when.
If it comes back again, and of course in case it's allowed and doable, to wget a local copy of the full site may prove like a good thing to do...

It looks like this site is back up , somewhat different but pretty much the same.. no explanation of what happened though.. I'm just glad it's back.

6x9 and be there!
Great news, Jan.
Unfortunately, it seems Bob now uses some kind of free web hosting plagued with ads and popups.
Two weeks ago, there was a thread on Photo.net about Bob's site suspension. Many forumers volonteered to contribute to the Medium Format Megasite's hosting, but nobody seemed to be able to get in touch with Bob.
Cheers,
Abbazz

I've corresponded with Bob in the past and have to be fair to him here. He seems backed up due to professional workload. He usually gets around to responding it can be weeks though. So the 'slow' response to people offering him hosting sounds about in line with my experience.
Perhaps he'll contact someone or else muddle through. You may recall that at one time his site was hosted by the University. Things went slowly while he moved to the present situation and all has been well for several years. I'm prepared to stick with him for the next while. Hopefully for all his readers and supporters he will get it sorted out.
