Any R-D1 users experience this???

My R-D1 came out of repair from Plainfield (sp) about 6 weeks ago. In that time there's still been a couple of hic-cups, but this in particular is a little frightening. I've had major problems with the camera in the past (which is why I sent it in for repair in the first place). But this is the second time it's done this, and only since it returned from repair. Is this a sign of things to come? Anyone have any guesses?

I have never seen that in either of my R-D1s. What kind of memory card are you using? You might try a new one to see if it's some kind of memory write error.

Yup, I have the habbit of always formatting a card before use. To note, both times that it happened, were on the first frame shot _EPS0001.ERF

Just wind past the first frame! 🙂

Seriously, though, how do you reset the frame count on the R-D1? I've never done that before.

On another note - you might consider reloading the V2.0 firmware. That's a close as I can think to getting a hard restart.

if it only happened 2 times and at the same frame...I personally would forget about it....I mean even in the darkroom developing film...some times things happen....this is just digital crapola....don
 
One of mine started doing that, only vertical. It got more frequent, then the sensor developed a constant vertical bright red line exactly in the middle of the frame.

What you have looks like some sort of sensor circuit oscillation/burp that might get worse.

They replaced my camera, they couldn't fix the sensor.

If you're in warranty, I'd keep your eye on it. If it keeps happening, that looks like bad mojo and I would call and ask for a replacement because of "lemon" status.

I would hate for something like that to become persistent one week after your guarantee is up.....
 
If its on the first frame shot:

1. Was the camera still on when the card was inserted?
2. Are you formatting in camera?
3. Did the card have time to register (had the red light stopped flashing) before you shot the first frame?

I have seen this sort of fault with memory cards (I note you have tried two) or when the card has not registered properly with the camera.

1. The camera was not on when the card(s) were inserted.
2. All formatting is done in-camera.
3. The card had plenty of time to register before taking a shot.

Just noticed however, that the streaks are NOT shown on the cameras LCD monitor unless it's in magnify mode. At which point the streaks would be visable even if the image has not been magnified, as long as it's being viewed in magnify mode.
