It's a long story, but I will shortly have a nice 111c,which I have owned before, but sold on for financial reasons. It was by far my biggest ever outlay on a camera, and something of an ambition realised when I bought it originally, and I count myself lucky that Ash now has other leica 'fish to fry',and this has given me the opportunity to buy it back from him.

I will be using J8 FSU lens with the camera, which is probably a sacrilage in Leica terms, but I'm pretty sure that it will serve me well. However if in the fullness of time if I can aspire to a genuine Leica 50 mm.lens,I would be keen to hear any advice on the options.Presumably post war coated lenses would be the place to start?but I have an open mind.

Perhaps I should say that my budget will not be huge, but to offset that,I class myself as an ordinary snapper,so my demands are not huge either.;)

Thanks in advance,

Brian.

Brian, pity you didn't want the Canon 50/1,8 in my sig :D

I'm sure you sold one of them recently?

If the collapsible Summicron wasn't a gift, and If I wasn't keen on using it on the M when I get one, I'd offer you that :)

Ash,
You're right about the Canon, but at the time it seemed to be wasted on the Zorki,if only I could have seen into the future:confused:

Thanks for the thought.
Brian.

This is the lens that came with most of the IIIc's...They range in price, depending on condition, from around $125usd to, maybe, $275usd or a bit more...

You have several 50mm Leica lenses to choose from:

Elmar f3.5 (previously mentioned)
Elmar f2.8 collapsible
Summitar f2 collapsible
Summicron f2 collapsible
Summarit f1.5

Other 50mm non-Leica lenses to consider:
Canon f1.8
Canon f1.5
CV f2.5
J3 f1.5

Brian
There is nothing wrong with a good J12, apart from ergonomics, - the aperature is too easy to disturb, you would have to pay a lot for a new CV.
On a similar vein a FSU 'Elmar' clone in good condition will be comparable to an Elmar that is scratched, the high ref glas that leitz used uis really soft.
The snag is none of my Industars are in resonable condition.
I not sure about Ash's last post...
Noel

Noel, don't worry, this is all so I have a different camera for every RFF meet ;)

I'll be bringing the Contax II and I have no intention of selling that. I would like a comparable (better) Leica, so some gear has to go to fund it.

Besides when I'm rich and famous I can buy all the gear back again :D

*ahem* there's a 50/1,8 nestled in the same box as the IIIc ;)

He's a little so-and-so that Ash!!
Probably selling sand to the Arabs.Whoops! apologies if that's politically incorrect:eek:

Brian.

Cheers Bob,Frank,Mark and Noel, many thanks for your advice--I'm checiking out Ash's Canon 50/1.8,still being sacriligious.

Used a Serenar 50/1.8 with an M3 for 17 years, and it didn't seem like sacrilege.

Paysam you are quite right,I am delighted to be getting hold of the Canon--I am really looking forward to it!:D
Brian.

If all goes to plan (which it won't) I'll have a cheque, a shutter cone for the Leica Standard, a Leica M2, and a Leitz LTM-M adapter.

Course, chances are the Leica won't arrive til mid-week, and postie won't bother
delivering the shutter cone, and cheque won't arrive til friday!

Oh also my avatar was with the 50/1,8 Canon (another thread reminded me),,, it responded well to bright back-light.

Yes it does, Ash. And that is a nice cat. ;)

Congrats on your new gear. See, things most often do work out for a reason.
