I just stumbled on Ralph Gibson's website and was admiring the signature MP when I noticed the angled rewind crank. It looks unusual (to me, and I am no expert on the MP), i.e. angled rather then the straight/vertical rewind I see on the current MPs. I kind of like it. Any idea what model/issue this (MP) is? Here is the MP I am talking about (hope I am not breaking any laws by linking the image here):

.. and here is the MP I am used to seeing...

Well, turns out B&H sells it (link) and their ad says "M7-style angles rewind device" under the "Features" tab... Very cool, I've always found the "normal" MP rewind kind of ugly but quite like the one on the M7..

I like Ralph Gibson but that is one ugly looking camera. I have been seeing them on ebay from dealers and they are not selling. You would think that any Leica of which there are only 50 would be gone in a heartbeat but it just looks horrible.

Cannot agree more! :eek:But it is only me. Definitely some will find it awesome.:)

Cheerz.:p

Gheeesh! Where's the puking emoticon when you need it? ;<(***

Gibson's MP edition is so garish. But to each his own... eventually they will sell. There have to be 50 rich people in the world who think it's cool looking. They probably have not all heard about it yet.:D

The strap is good

The strap is good

After some searching around, I've located the maker of the leather strap shown in the 1st post and it just arrived. My first impressions are that this woven strap is light, comfortable to use, and easy to wrap (and stay wrapped) around my wrist. I expect I will like using it.

I like the look of the woven strap as well, but I think I'd put a piece of tape on those rivets. The one looks to be perfect height to be rubbing on the edge of the rewind crank.

And just why would you want a camera with some elses signature on it?

Just like guitars- all these 'special editions' with some chumps name scrawled across the headstock or pickguard.

I just don't see the appeal.

most of the time your signed fendar will have a hand adjust neck while the standard has no minute adjustement... Me think its the same with those leicas.

Mmm. Also that M-Hexanon 50 looks good on your M7 too! :)
- thanks Peter, I like the Hexanon too! (courtesy ampguy)

- good point, I just checked, the rivet misses the rew. crank by about 1.5mm in the camera "hanging" position.

To me it isn't the signature in this case as just a few days ago I had no idea Mr. Gibson existed. I like the combination MP body with the M7-style rewind crank and, of course, the strap :). While I would probably be inhibited by the bright red color of the covering, it is nonetheless visually appealing to me, all these things put together.

well a la carte is for you then if that is what grabs your mojo about the camera, as it is much less than the one with his name on it. nachkebia links you to your dream body above:)
