Yashica's are not voltage dependent. They can handle slight variences with no effect. You will need to buy or make battery adaptor to hold the battery secure but they are readily available on ebay. Mine is a hand made wooden adaptor that works great.
Other batteries that work fine are ;
PX28A, 4LR44, 4SR44, and several other 6V versions.
Any of these can be found at local Radio Shack stores and some drug stores.
Have fun

You're welcome. Takes more than batteries to disable old Yashica gsn's.

Battery for GTN
I assume it's the same as the GSN? If so, Batteries Plus, which has an online store, as well as retail locations, sells the perfect battery that needs no adaptor. I got mine from my local store. It's a 6v alkaline, the same dimensions as the original battery. Sorry, I don't have the model number handy. The clerk at the store knew exactly what I wanted as soon as I walked in with a picture of the original battery. I'll repost here if I can find the model number of the battery. It was $11.99, and I was thrilled to be able to put it in and have it just work.

The one I got from the local Batteries Plus store is white with these markings:
PC164 / TR164A
E164
6.0V
ALKALINE
Also, the + end of the battery is flat, while the negative end has the bump; opposite of any other battery I have seen. So it's easy to put in backwards and think it doesn't work.
WARNING: The Batteries Plus website is entirely USELESS for finding this battery.
But, it looks like Zbattery has it here: http://www.zbattery.com/tr164a1.html
Cheers!

I used an Electro years ago, and gave it away. I just got another a month or so ago, and it's been great. You will have a lot of fun.aneal said:just got a gsn from ebay auction. my first rangefinder camera. am waiting for battery adapter from yahica guy to try it out. my regular camera is Nikon F FTN photomic.

There is a flickr pool of just Electro photos. I have some of mine posted there under the user name DarrylA. The Electro Pool is at http://www.flickr.com/groups/yashicaelectro/pool/
A couple more links for sample Electro photos on pBase:
