In fact it is not so much a "top secret" nor may be so reluctant to every Oly fan among us. It is rather a small gossip, but even then I am not going to release it so easy, therefore you may have to eat the whole story.
We the Kiev users are splitted into two factions. Perhaps most of us prefer the older Kievs whith their undeniable aesthetical appeal, while the minority (I assume and may be wrong in that) prefer the newer Kievs with their undeniable user advantages, but despite their aesthetical ugliness.
About how to overcome this ugliness, I posted some two years ago a thread (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17589), which you don't have to go there now as it basically consists in:
a) Paint it black, and buy for front plate a ready one with white logo from Alex photo goods. A black 4am looks a totally different camera.
b) Replace that ugly self timer button for a full chromed one.
c) Either buy a new covering from Aki Asahi, or, I am adding now, use the shoe's Kiwi LIQUID solution (apply only with a brush of your own) for bringing the original one alive.
Yet all these left us with a major issue to solve: what to do with that ugly rewind knob, which is not only ugly but also interferes with many flashes protruding to his side.
Now I am happy to announce to the crowds of the world that I have found an alternative rewind knob, fitting exactly the needs of the Kiev 4am. This rewind knob belongs of course to another camera: the Olympus 35 RD.
Cheers,
Ruben
