Hi-
I got an extra battery with the M8, but it did not come in a nice plastic case, just a big box with foam. Anyone have a good idea on either 1) a good case, or 2) whether one needs a case (I am just sort of worry that metal might short it or something.
Thanks.

How about just storing it in the charger brick. That's what I do but I would guess that some of you out there think that is a bad idea. If so, why?

Doesn't it come with some sort of cover for the contacts? The BP511 batteries for Canon digitals have a cover which fits on the batteries base. I usualy have one or two spares in my bag.

The battery comes with no cover. I need to carry it in a bag when going about, so I can't store it in the charger. I will just find or make a small cloth envelope, jsut thought I would ask.
Thanks,
Michael

Michael, I have my AA batteries in small plastic bags with a rubber band around so they don't short. Could work for you, too.

The Leica M8's battery contacts are recessed and therefore not in any danger of shorting out if they come in contact with metal objects. The only concern is keeping the recesses free from dirt and dust. I use a small zip lock bag to store my 2 spare batteries. Come to think of it, I might check out those small neoprene cases for small digicams or cell phones that are sold on the street and in my camera shop.

As noted above, Luigi from www.leicatime.com makes a small case for the battery and an extra SD card to carry on the neck strap.

When you buy a SanDisk Extreme III SD card (at least here in Europe anyway) you get a little neoprene wallet with it with 2 pockets. You can just fit an M8 battery in one of them and your SD card in the other. I'm sure Luigi's is much nicer though.

I just throw my extra in the Film compartment of my camera bag. since all my film is in the plastic canisters, no shotring problem. The extra slot in the SanDisk wallet sounds good though.

jeez people, just put it in your pocket or in a pocket in your bag. It is a battery, not a faberge egg. If it does not come with a case, then it probably does not need one.
