Hmm, there are redundant forums (forae?), but none where we can talk about optics (anymore). Oh, well.

For a while I've had in my possession what I call a Brianov Jupiter-3 in Leica thread mount (LTM); it was salvaged by Brian Sweeney. I haven't used it much, for it has no coatings whatsoever, and it flares, so only under certain conditions do I feel confident I can use it the way it should. Well, this little "green-eyed" lens (the glass has, literally, a "minty" tint to it) shows you just why high-contrast lenses are overrated:

I was playing with it, comparing it with the Summitar, and then the Summilux pre-asph. In color shots, the Summitar and Summilux leave it far behind, but in B&W, this lens holds its own. Its "Sonnar look" (not really seen much here) is also one of its best attributes.

Do you have a Jupiter-3 shot? Even better, do you have a Brianov lens shot?

Ha! Look at that.

I wish the Optics forum hadn't been nixed; your thread would have been easily found. Thanks for the heads-up!

with r-d1...my '57 is a mess, I desperately need a new(er) one....

Yeah it does have a decent purple coating, under the dust and fingerprints (it's been through a lot of struggle :)). I wasn't aware there were uncoated ones...? Was yours removed?

Why is the 1957 lens a Mess?

Well, the filter threads are very mangled...filters/hood get stuck, and invariably the lens module unscrews. The rear group (and the standoff ring) is probably not in the right spot, it's very loose and probably needs a proper adjustment and a set screw...I don't know, I miss focus a lot, whether or not I use an fsu body. The glass is very nice...I've just gotten too frustrated.

Are you taking on any new patients currently? :)
