I'll be in Lisbon for Easter and I need a new bag to carry my cameras (R-D1 and M6) plus 3 or 4 lenses. The Billingham and the Domke are beatifull (and expensive!), which one would you suggest? which model?

Thanks
Luca:confused:

Mine's a Hadley pro - it's a bit bigger than you need, but there's room for the phone, the GPS, the sunglasses.... but not too big at all. It's got a very narrow profile, so it hugs the body nicely, and is much less conspicuous than my other bags. And it has a handle on the top, which is very useful if you need to pick it up in a hurry. I love it.

ps (with apologies to GID!) - my other bag's a Nova AW4 - I keep a 5D in it. ;)

I've got the Billingham 206 which would handle what you have with space for film and extras. However, a much better buy in my opinion is the Lowerpro Nova AW 4 - a similar size to the 206 (externally), but much more versatile, much less expensive (about £100 less) and just as good - I rarely use the Billingham now.

Hi Luca! You'll find many here who really like the Domke F-5XB bag. It has room for a couple of bodies with lens and a couple of extra lens. It is fairly small and compact, which is something some people don't like as much. There isn't a lot of extra room, but depending on what you need, it might work. Joe (Back Alley here on RFF) has three or four of the bags he likes them so much. Just something to think about!

I'm a domke guy myself, but I just picked up a messenger style bag from old navy for $12 for pretty much the same amount of kit you will be carrying. I'll add a couple dividers and it will be perfectly inconspicuous.

Well I also always seem to be searching for the idea "Tardis" bag. At present my favourite for the R-D1 is the Tamrac Velocity 3, same length and hieght as the Lowerpro Nova AW 4, which I also have, but only about 2/3rds the depth. I can get an R-D1 in, together an M4 (or an Xpan) with lenses and two more small lenses if needed. Plus room for batteries etc.

It was fairly cheap too, about £30 (GBP).

light!

light!

I have found that a small messanger style bag with the Domke three compartment divider carries an RD1, a R2M each with a lens mounted, two other lenses and all the film, batteries and cards I need for a day job. In a pinch it will even carry my laptop- a 12" G4 for tiny's sake.

The bag I have is from Chrome and lined with a rubberized material and a more ordinary strap than their signature seat-belt one- I am not sure it is still available. The closest on their site is the 'Mini-Metro'. Check out:

Just a H.U. about Billinghams (and Fogs). I own several Billinghams and think they're great and all, but not long ago when travelling thru an airport the screener demanded to see what was inside and then decided the bag needed another pass thru the x-ray which was about 30 feet away. She wouldn't allow me to get close to the table, I had to stand "back of the line", and I watched in horror as she slung my bag with 2 Leica's and 4 lenses inside, over her shoulder with one press-stud undone and the other partially undone. Just by sheer luck it made it to, thru and back from the x-ray without the contents spilling onto the tile floor. Nothing but zipper tops on bags for me from now on if I'm travelling by air.
