I have ever used 4GB SD cards for M8 in india trip.
I got backuped this cards in some Internet cafe in inida.
After that, this sd cards were in malfunction.
I brought 5 SD cards, but 2 SD cards were borken and vanished my photos.
Could you recommend the brand of 4GB SD card munufacturer for M8?

My personal opinion: don't. Use 1 or 2 Gb cards of a good brand, like Sandisk or Lexar and many others. One 4GB card dies, you lose it all. One 1 GB card dies, you still have threequarters of your work. Beware of fake Sandisk cards sold on e-bay. They are not very good, to say the least. Buy at a reputable shop.

I agree with Jaap. I wouldn't use anything larger than 1Gb, that way you don't lose too much if a card goes up the left. I use Sandisk 1Gb cards and have never (yet) had a problem.

I have Sandisk 1 and 2 Gb cards. Works absolutely fine. 2Gb is about 178 raw images. Why do you specifically need 4Gb?

I have three 2-GB Sandisk Ultra II that work just fine on the M8. With close to 180 RAW files on each, you have plenty of storage before you have to exchange the card. I would carry some kind of portable storage device that you can use to transfer the files from the SD cards. Epson P-2000 can be had for less than $300 now and it has a beautiful display screeen. Like Jaap mentioned, stay away from eBay for your SD cards needs.

I use Sandisk Ultra II 2gb cards and Transcend 150x 4gb cards. The latter are, as far as I know, the only non-SDHC 4Gb cards.
They all work fine. I use 2 Nexto units to store images. Quite inexpensive; add your own drives in whatever size you need, and with the extra battery you can download 100Gb per charge _very_ quickly. With the external battery it's still smaller than the Epson. I sold my Epson P2000.

4 Gb cards (for the M8) don't exist.
I prefer Lexar Pro 133x cards; haven't had a problem yet.

I've been using 4GB Transcend TS4GSD150 cards in the M8 without any problems. About 382 images per card. It's an 150x SD card not SDHC. There seems to be some confusion with vendors over this. There are adverts on the web naming the SD version but showing a picture of the SDHC card and also the reverse, as well as swapped descriptions. Be careful!

2G card, Sandisk is like having 5 rolls of film if you shoot Raw. That, and a few backups shouild be enou gh. DR

I've tried the transcend 4GB card in my M8, after trying to format it for 30 minutes I took it out.

After just checking the Leica website, it seems that 4GB cards are not really recommended. It seems that just 2 manufacturers 4GB cards are ok - Extreme Memory Performance and Hama High Speed. The Transcend I have won't even work in my LX1 or GRD as well.

Are the cards you are using the TS4GSD150 ? There is another Trancend the TS4GSDC150 (I think that's the number) which is SDHC and that will not work. A lot of stockist seem to be changing over to the SDHC versions but not always describing them or showing the correct picture on their web sites. Of course there's the possibility you may have fakes. You can check the authenticity of your card's serial number on the Transcend web site.

The only 4 gig cards that work with the M8 are the cards recommended by Leica. I have the Hama cards and they really work well. The reason why the others dont work is simply that the other cards are SDHC which are physically different and have a different structure. In theory you should not be able to get 4 gigs on a standard SD card (2gigs was the limit) but somehow Hama found a way and it works.
I now use larger cards because I hate opening the baseplate in the open - yes, I hate changing lenses too! I was out in the desert in the Gulf recently, the wind was blowing and I changed lenses. I have spent the last few weeks taking dust spots off images and plucking up courage to clean the sensor.

Two comments.
The SDII "opens" much faster (I think the directory read takes more time on the large card), and the transcend although it formats quickly, won't read on one of my two computers.
The card has to be formatted ONLY on my laptop, then it will work in the M8, base computer, and laptop readers. The M8 or base computer format of the transcend card fails to read on one of the other devices. So try formatting on other devices first. You may be surprised if you format it on something else then you can then re-format it on the camera quickly.
