Allrighty,

The lens arrived yesterday from Gilles (member here).
Beautiful....small light, and very nice to have on the camera...it matches my eye/brain exactly.
It is about 95% to the framelines..better than expected.....

I'm lovin this combination.....I don't think I could get the camera any more discreet than this.......I have the hood but probably won't use it while making images...just when I'm carring it.....hate hoods.....

anyway...thanks to all for leading me to this focal length/lens......

you guys were right...it's made for this camera......don

Here is a shot where I focused on the forehead thinking the eyes were too dark anyway. So the hair line is sharp at expense of nose and eyes but this was 1/11s at f1.4 and close in. I find the focus with my R D1 very accurate wide-open (knock on wood:)

The 40mm has been afixed to my R D1 since I got it.

here are a couple - the picture of the ruler was the first frame I shot on the Eppy - EPSN0001.jpg :D

I focused on the tip of the ruler to check the lens out - it was spot on. I'm trying hard not to miss it! Luckily the Rokkor is some comfort...

Phil,
OT and they look good, but
How does one attach pics as you have here?

disregard, I just figured it out.

Here's a shot I took with my 40 Nokton on the R-D1. Focused on the top of the orange can, but the bottom of the can and the fence is sharper . . .

Same lens on an M8 focused on the woman's eyeglass frame at the center of the image but her hairline behind the focus point is sharp . . .

It is more pronounced in your first shot (the can)Joe. The second is a nice shot by the way. It would seem as thoguh your focus point there, ann as it comes across on my screen, was her right side (glasses).

Wide open @ ISO1600 - it was basically dark when I took this shot (half four on a December afternoon in the UK)

I shot the whole wedding with the Nokton, great multi-purpose lens...
I tend to use my Canon f/1.2 a lot more these days, but the Nokton is technically better and also nicely compact...

I am beginning to think that maybe my RF focusing skill is just rusty. ;)

Yeah, but it's a little tricky to use the Epson rangefinder...I find that you can't really fine tune too much....I get it in rough-fast- and then just a slight tweak....it's accurate enough just the travel is not as smooth as a Leica.....I'll post some pics after I get the new Lightroom installed...till then I'm waitin and making pics.....

Myself, I really like the full size finder but it still ain't the M2 when it comes to bright. I find especially at wide apertures taking more time than i would like honing the focus...at the expense of capturing the moment. Then i tell myself...well if I were more in practice shooting I would do better.

Well, in my case.....I very rarely use the rangefinder....I use the scales hyperfocal distance etc...most times but when I do use it....it seems to work fine.....I'm happy........nothing in life is perfect......

The framing is more important to me and the 40mm..is about as good as it gets....My M8's weren't any more accurate.....

I really like an invisible viewfinder....even the meter bothers me but that's life again....

thus my name...M4streetshooter......

Excuse the ignorance (newbie in the RF world) but is this the nokton classic 40mm 1.4 Leica M mount you guys are reffering to? It looks like THE lens for my kind of shooting, but did not see it listed on the epson lens chart, and did not know if it was compatible.

I reckon that this is it....it seems to be better than 95% accurate to me at all distances.......but I found that I use the outter edge of the frame line and then it's right on.......great lens........don

Yes that's the lens and it works beautifully with the R-D1.

There are 2 versions a single coated SC version which has been discontinued and some prefer for black and white work and a multi-coated MC version which is still readily available and is the model I have.

I have the same issues with my R-D1 with the CV40mm. I bought my first 40mm f/1.4 SC new from cameraquest. I thought it was a fluke so I bought used mint condition CV 40mm MC, but it turned out to have the same issues. Front focus consistantly. Doesn't matter if it start focus from minimum or max distance. same results. My Zeiss 21mm f/2.8, Minolta M-Rokkor f/2.8, and Zeiss 50mm f/2 all focus dead on. But even with both CV40mm stepped down to f/2, it looks to front focus. :bang: If the focus was better, this would be an excellent lens on my R-D1.
