Anyone in the U.S. get their 30% off lens?

Greetings,

As most or all of you know, M8 purchasers in 2006 qualify for a specially priced Leica lens.

I sent in all my paperwork to Solms. About 3 or 4 weeks ago received it back with a form letter that said, in effect "thanks, you qualify. We're returning to you your original receipts and instructing Leica USA to fill your order".

So I contacted Leica USA and said "where's my lens?". Their customer service called me and said in effect "we're not involved in this part of the process". They said something like "Solms is now making your lens" which with respect doesn't sound exactly right.

So --no lens, yet. No word, yet.

I order a 35/1.4 --anyone else get their lens? Anyone know what in the world is a going on?

Thanks in advance,
Michael

I am in pretty much the same boat. Just got my letter back from Solms, saying they have my order for a 50 lux asph, but that Leica USA will handle delivery and billing. No word of a timetable.

Put in for a WATE in December. Nothing yet.
No filters either and I ordered them the end of December! Getting older by the minute! Gotta love those pinks from the Noctilux!

I think M lenses are in short supply, and like the M8 itself, lenses are backordered.

I received my 28mm 2.0 Summicron about 3 weeks ago, after ordering as soon as I received the form in late January. I assume Leica makes lenses in batches. I may have been lucky that this lens was a batch in production. I checked my credit card on a Friday and noticed that the price of the lens was charged. I received it by UPS on Weds, so it was shipped by 2 day service late on Friday or early on Monday.

I don't think we'll see the IR cut filters until firmware 1.10 is released. I think they go hand in hand.

I received my cut filters about 2 weeks ago. I ordered my 75 Summicron and got a note on 6th March saying delivery would be about 4 weeks. Should be here soon on that reckoning...

Other than monthly bulk e-mails, Leica USA has never informed me directly of anything or replied to e-mails to them. I'm waiting for a 6-bit encoded lens to be returned. (Two encoding coupons did come with the 30% discount lens.) I sent the lens to Leica USA with return receipt so I could know it was received; and I included a check for $50 for the tune up, even though the lens is clean and focuses perfectly, so I can see when it is cashed at the bank. These are the only indications I expect that Leica USA is doing anything.

If they were an E-Bay vendor, I would rate them negatively for poor communications. I hope others have better experience dealing with Leica USA.

Still waiting. I registered for filters in Nov and sent in my lens request a month ago. I just received my receipts back. That is a good sign.

So was that deal just for the early adopters who had to send their M8s back to Solms or can I buy an M8 now and get 30% off on a lens next week?

The offer applied to M8's purchased, or paid in full, on or before 31 Dec 2006. The letter with the lens request form wanted to thank those who purchased "during the period of uncertainty". Full sales records had to accompany the order, which had to be sent directly back to Solms.

I just received a letter yesterday (dated April 2) saying they had booked my lens order and that delivery and billing would be done by Leica USA. It did not give any timeframe. My M8 went off to Germany around March 9 for the upgrades; I suspect it'll be back first. Then perhaps the filters I ordered back whenever their availability was first announced to early M8 buyers.

Kind of wish I had the camera already--I am off to a bar mitzvah this weekend--although without the upgrades and filters I would have a lot of purple tuxes, I suspect. Perhaps I will use my trusty Hexar with its excellent little flash.

Ah thanks.

My M8 just arrived! Battery STILL charging . . . :)

I purchased an M8 from the first batch shipped to the US. I have rec'd my two IR/UV filters and also my discounted lens approx. 3 weeks ago.

Missing 28/2.8

Missing 28/2.8

I ordered a 28/2.8 on or about 4/10/07 with a letter to Solms along with the required receipts and I got the receipts back in 3-4 weeks. I have not heard from Leica USA or Germany since regarding the lens ordered. Who do you think that I should contact to see if the ball is rolling or if it as a flat spot?

Suggest you write m8.support@leica-camera.com

I have found them very helpful, although I suspect here that it will take more than three months., My lens came in just under four months, but the 28/2.8 appears to be in short supply.

I registered my M8 in January and received my filters a couple of months ago. Delivery of filters appears to be totally dependent on Leica's supply and, as I understand it, they don't partial ship so if on size isn't available then you don't get either.

I'm still waiting for the 30%-off lens I ordered in April. I got a nice email from a support person in Germany when I asked for status a week or so ago. It did not make any promises, just apologized for the day and implied they're swamped with orders. I wonder if Leica has ever had such a big sale before. 30% off is a lot of money....
