Just bougt a RD-1 from a member here. How do I get the software to manage the RAW format on my apple computer? Maybe it's simple, but I don't know!!! I'm unable for the moment to read the raw format. Any suggestions?

And how do I upgrade to RD-1 s?

I use photosphop for my jpegs. Never shoot before with raw format. I guess I don't know how to use photoshop for raws format. Can I just swing my RD1 files in photoshop and get a result? How?

Anywere where I can't get more infos?

By the way, what is the difference between the RD1 and the RD1s?
 
Diff between the R-D1 and R-D1s is basically the software.

No reason NOT to download the Epson software which does a terrific job of opening the RAW files. Photoshop CS2 with Adobe Camera RAW 3.7 should also open the Epson's RAW files.

You can select RAW + JPEG on the camera and then you can compare the quality of the RAW vs JPG for yourself.
 
I import into iphoto which I use for the library and folders. I've set up iphoto to open any double clicked photo in PSE3 which automatically opens RD-1 files in Adobe raw.
 
To the best of my knowledge iPhoto will not import R-D1 raw files, only DNG conversions, and only then I think if one has used the plist hack.

Saturnales, if you want to use iPhoto or Aperture for R-D1 raw files, you must first convert them to Adobe DNG files, using Adobe's free converter. You must also hack the plist file in the Apple system software. It's not difficult, just follow this link to member scho's posts and then his links to the Leica forum:

Like others have said, Epson's PhotoRaw works great on the Mac, without the need for any of the above hacks or conversions.

This is incorrect. Iphoto will import RD-1 raw files. they show up in photo library but are unreadable due to pixilation. Once processed in Adobe raw they work just fine. I transfer using a Sandisk card reader and do it almost daily and it's a very simple process, if a little time consuming.
 
Aside from the fact that they are unreadable (one of my requirements for a successful import), how do you do it? If I try to import, using the import menu, the ERF files are dimmed and I am unable to select them. If I try to import directly from the card, only jpegs are imported. You say they work just fine after processing in Adobe Raw. You mean after being converted to Tiff or jpeg? Doesn't count. 🙂

I'm using the R-D1(s) with adobe DNG converter and I also did the hack with the RAW.plist file. I heartily suggest using APERTURE instead. anytime you edit in iPhoto it makes a copy. huge drain on time and drive space. I tried it until downloading the aperture trial.

I'm still on the aperture trial but like it MUCH better than lightroom, and the organizational stuff in sperture is awesome. As are the color correction controls.

and as of now I have been doing the ERF->DNG conversion and dumping the ERF files.

Open iPhoto. Put card in reader. Open pull down File menu. Click import. After import double click photos.It opens in Adobe Raw converter. Do whatever adjustments you need to do. Save in whatever format floats your boat. Close PSE3. Photos are now library'd in iPhoto. Can't think of anything easier.

By the way, this is a G5 Power PC running OS 10.4.9 and iphoto 4.
 
That explains it. iPhoto 6.0.6 is the current version. It won't import ERF files. If importing your photos into iPhoto 4 where you can't view them until you open them in ACR works for you, that's cool with me.

The OP (and me) however, is going to be quite confused when you claim you can "import" photos into iPhoto and neglect to mention that you can't view them and also fail to mention that you are using an outdated version of the software. Like you said, whatever floats your boat.

Thanks, you just answered whether or not I want to upgrade to iphoto 6. I guess the answer is not. By the way, the thumbnails are viewable but not the full screen version. The workflow is easy and convenient and iphoto 4 wopks very well as a library only.

Now I'm waiting for PSE5 for Mac so I can use the same workflow for my K10D.
