Kurt Vonnegut as one of the last heroes of 60s. Though I am from another generation his work has a sweet spot in my heart, too. Maybe it's due to the Afganistan-Vietnam connection - what America felt in 60s Russia felt in 80s. I lived in Russia back then, and I remember back in mid 80s when I was just 12 years old, my brother 5 years elder almost got to Afganistan. I am so happy it never happened. I live in Israel for many years now, my army service was in Israeli Defence Forces aka IDF, but that's already another story.

Btw, do you know where I can find work of Jill Krementz on the web? She's been Kurt Vonnegut's wife since 70s, and she's renowned as photographer. I liked her b&w work (of writers), at least what I could find, and she seems to be RFF kind of phographer.

I was sad to hear this on the radio this morning. I listen to the college station here, they were pretty choked up over it. A great writer, definitely one of my literary inspirations. Always managed to make sense of things that were completely nonsensical, and entertain in the process. Very insightful.

Just finished Breakfast of Champions, read Slaughterhouse some years ago, and I must say he's the kind of writer that just puts certain ideas inside your head, locks it and throws the key away. I'll try to locate Good bless you, Mr Rosewater and Cat's Cradle soon, and fit them into my reading..
