Got a 21st birthday to go to tonight and i wanted to give my little hi-matic a spin. I managed to get a sunpack softlite 1600A flash to use, however im a little new to flashes. There seems to be three settings two A's and a M. Seeing the minolta is fully automatic what setting do i use?

I wish you'd posted a pic of the camera's controls. Most of us would figure it out in a heartbeat that way, but we are not familiar with the exact model.

The answer is to not use the M mode. Each A mode has a different range setting and a corresponding aperture. The shutter speed doesn't matter, but faster than 1/60 is probably preferred to minimize ghosting.

There is probably a chart on the flash that says which A range is good for what distance, and an aperture at which to set the lens.

If your camera just has one setting for flash, with a lightning bolt I wouldn't know how it works without seeing it.
