Older Jupiter 8 - aperture ring slack

I've just got hold of a '62 Zorki 4, which came with what I think is the original lens, i.e. a non-black J8. I've sussed getting it apart to clean & re-lube the focus helicoids (rather like an I-26 or I-61), but the aperture ring is very slack. I'm guessing the lube has dried up to nothing so I'd like to get at it - how does the ring come off?

I suspect the front part of the lens unscrews complete with (at least) the front element. Can anyone confirm that this is so and whether it's a left or right-hand thread please? It's damned tight if it's threaded!
