Just venting ... since today I've been thinking of selling my J3 and getting a postwar 50/1.5 Sonnar to match with my Contax IIIa. Maybe I'm completely silly.

Ah well ... GAS GAS GAS... a most horrible fate to all of us!

Psssst is anyone selling a 50/1.5 sonnar ? 😉

Nothing silly at all about the 50 1.5 sonnar. I just had mine overhauled in Tokyo at ridiculous expense so I won't be parting with it anytime soon. As long as you are suffering from the syndrome, some more fuel for the fire ... nobody ever mentions the 135 f4, but it has a pretty incredible look too, and they are pretty cheap.

I am looking to get one 😉 and today i found a zeiss-ikon G3 323/3 clip-on metal yellow filter, it's lovely, and just 40 CZK ! (that's about $2)... there's an old handwritten marking in german inside the box:

Landschften mit Ferne. Schnee u. Gegenlichtaufn stilleben. Gemäldereproduktionen farbige Kostüme.

🙂

Max - is the change for GAS reasons only (as if we needed another reason!) or would you prefer the prewar look to your photos?

zuikologist : besides the gas, it's because I feel more like moving towards a full Zeiss equipment : body, lens and filter.

I have nothing against my faithful & great J3, it's just that I'm drawn to the build quality & premium optics produced by Zeiss. And of course, let's admit it even if it will sound futile: I'll fell all warm & fuzzy inside to have a IIIa with a postwar Sonnar 😉

I've got a 50/2 pre-war coated sonnar (collapsible) and this one will stick in front of my prewar Contax III. Once they'll be back from H. Scherer (they have to make it there first, I think in 6 months with some good luck it'll be my turn) I will see if I keep the Contax III & 50/2 Sonnar or if I sell them together (both are from 1936, bought separately).

About the prewar look, here's a series of photos taken with TX400, my previous Kiev-2A and the 50/2 Sonnar : http://ingvarr.blogspot.com/2006/07/some-recent-photos.html 😉

Voila 🙂

I had been snooping on a 135/4 Carl Zeiss Sonnar on eBay for a while and I was lucky, it's now on my way. Item number : 280110042845 you know where 😉
