The ultimate joy using the M8 - except for the 'quality feel' of the camera, - you hand it to just anybody with marginal photo experience they say 'wow' - is the fantastic optics you can put on it.
First of all; the Leica lenses are remarkable! I have three lenses; a Noctilux 50 mm 1,0 - a 35 mm 2,0 Summicron and the Tri Elmar. The dullest, believe me, is the Noctilux. I have sent both this and the Summicron to Solms for tagging & adjusting. Which means 10 weeks without them.
The Noctilux I had used extensively so the weekend before the send-off I used the 35 mm 2,0 exclusively, - to try it out (bought 2.hand a few months ago). In this absolutely flat overcast day in a windy and cold weekend here in Oslo the Summicron found light where you would least expect it. Remarkable! Simply a stunning lense.
Then it is the Tri Elmar. Most likely one of the best zoom lenses for digital cameras ever made. I have compared it extensively to Canon's new 16-35 mm 2,8L II - which is also a hefty lense. But it can't reproduce this 3 dimensional look of the Tri Elmar. Is it micro contrast it is called? A bit difficult to use on low ISO indoor sometimes, but the Tri Elmar seems to find light where there it is not supposed to be.
Leica has come far with the M8 when they can now reproduce the qualities of this range of fine optics...
