I ran my first roll of new Plus-X though my Leica IIIf and developed it yesterday. Iris Davis has done an exhaustive study of B&W films, their best rated speeds, their developers, and the times of development (for normal, N+1, N+2, N-1, N-2). It is a pretty large project. You can read it here: http://www.chrisjohnsonphotographer.com/charts.shtml#anchor30675

Her times and rated speed worked for me, which is something I seem to have trouble with (searching for rated speed and development times).

Here is an image I took two days ago. http://www.flickr.com/photos/8178676@N04/509661189/

If you go though Iris's work let me know what you think.

I like your photo a great deal. Thanks for the link of the developers/times. I'm always searching for proper development times for the films I try. I'm an amateur and love to experiment with films and developers.

Thanks for the response to my post MMc. I love trying new films and then trying to prefect my development and ISO. Plus-X (new) really came out nice for me, even though Iris didn't like it. I have tried Tmax100 as per her instructions. It was fairly good (good contrast and sufficient tone), but I will develop a little longer next time to see where that gets me. I have been photographing since 1952 and have never sold a photo, and I don't want to.

I think the tonaliy and controlled contrast were far and away better than the following picture on the website, which I'm assuming was digital. This is why I'll take film over digital any day. Nice work!

John: I posted a comment on Flickr ... sadly, now Plus-X is on my list. I say sadly, because the last thing I need is yet another film choice. I'm a simple man, like to stick with one or two b&w films. But how can one resist the embarrasment of riches that is Plus-X, FP4+, APX 100, Fomapan 100, etc.?

Have you tried Acros? Or Delta 100 in D-76 1:1? Both have me simply not able to stop at one film, or even two. I love Plus-X, FP4+, Acros, APX100 and Delta 100...gotten great results from all!

Trius, I like to think I'm a simple man, too. But in reality I can't stop trying these films. I think Iris is a good place to start with times. I've had good luck with her work.

I used her charts for Tri-x in D76 1:1 for the first time just a few days ago. At 320 it's dead on, but I haven't had a chance to scan the ones I shot at 640 and 1250 yet.

I'm a bit surprized that they rate tri-x in X-Tol 1:1 at only 200.

I know this is old but if you read this, Roma, some of her stuff seems off the wall but it works. I have communicated with her, and she is a very serious person. Don't let the nude images of her on the site fool you.
