just bought the M8, how do you download RAW files? won't work in Aperture, don't want to buy Lightzone, help please. Downloaded first batch using a card reader without a problem but images were DNG/jpegs..would like to use RAW, don't know how! Used Aperture and images all pixellated..thanks

Hi,

Capture One - LE comes with the M8 and reads the DNG files .... you should have got the disc with the camera! :)

I opened Capture One softwear..could you be specific about how this is used? do you use a card reader or the cable to download images? Can they be downloaded directly to Photoshop? any help much appreciated. I came from Canon and never had a problem

Also use a card reader do not download from the camera. it works, but the card readers are more efficient and you don't waste camera battery power. the readers are very inexpensive. as for software PS and PSE and the supplied C1LE work fine. make sure you go to Adobe and download the current DNE file for PS and PSE, may be why your'e current programs are not working.

Diana, just plug the card reader into your computer with the SD card in it and Capture one will come up to perform the down load, asking you where to save the files. pretty much automatic. PS and PSE also the same thing. if you need more help you can contact me at grduprey@mchsi.com

This whole experience will work a lot better if you read the M8 instruction manual. Capture One instructions are under help, but you can download the full help online to read more conveniently.

Diana, you do not say if you are working on a PC or a MAC. Please let us know.

If she used Aperture it is a MAC. And Aperture does indeed not support DNG. Diana, the best way to handle this is to copy the SD card to your computer using a card-reader. Then start C1, and on the lefthand side you will see a little yellow button with a foder. That is the file browser. Go to your downloaded folder and open DCIM, and then you will find a folder called "Leica 100" or "Leica 101". If you click that C1 will open all your files as thumbnails and you can start playing around with them. I would strongly urge you to go to the Leica User Forum and do a search of the M8 forum there. Not only is there a wealth of information, but you can also download/buy extra profiles for far better results than the profile that is supplied standard with C1.
Forget about your Canon workflow. This is different - and easier in the long run. If you go the C1 and small corrections in Aperture route you will find that you get better results with far less working of the files than you did before.

My point was going to be that if she is using a MAC with OSX it already has a cool application called Image Capture that will download from the camera to a file folder other than iPhoto. Then, use C1 to RAW process without all that other mismash.

I was gonna say: The M8 instructions are WRONG for English USA Mac's- the program called for in the manual is called iPhoto here. My M8 doesn't download all of the pictures through USB- I had to get a card reader. The download would stop after about 9 pictures or so.
