Bessa R/Jupiter 8/Black Bar

You mean the black bar on the right side of this sample shot? Are you sure it's not a wrongly cut negative?

You'll need to say what you mean by "random". The example picture does not indicate anything wrong with the lens.

What different area? I only see a slight black band on the left side. If that's what you mean, just tell us so. IMO it's an improperly cut negative.

Sorry. I assumed it was obvious (making an ass out of just me). Yeah, it is the black bar to the left on that one shot.

Hrmm. I guess that will be the last time I use boots for processing.

No need. Just go to a different branch. At least tell the people at your branch to be more careful cutting your negs.

Cannot be anything to do with processing. Can be bad cutting. Cannot have anything to do with the lens. If your next roll has the same problem, you might look at the camera body's film advance.

On the film advance, do you have any pictures with overlap with another pic. If the film is still in strips, look at the gap between frames and if it varies.

MAybe ask them not to cut your negs and then take it home and do it yourself.

great way to scratch the crap out of them even more than letting the shop do it. Ask me how I know :)

As has been said, the black bar at the side of the frame is simply the space between the frames on the negative. Are these scans from a print, or scans of the negatives?

Either way, it isn't a problem with cutting the negatives, it's a problem with either the printing or the scanning. It might stem from an issue with frame spacing in the camera, which you can check simply by looking at the negatives. Regardless, the shop should be willing to reprint the shots for you if it's in a print. If you scanned the negative, it's a framing issue with your scanner software. You should be able to fix that manually during scanning, if that's the case.

If these are problems with mounted slides, it may be a problem with cutting or a problem with mounting. Either way, it's not a camera/lens issue if they are shop prints showing this. The shop machine should be able to deal with slightly uneven frame spacing, since every camera has slightly different spacing as it is.
