I'm so excited! I just sent Stephen my money for a brand new silver Bessa R! My first RF.

Now I need to get myself a lens for this beauty.
Right now I'm looking at the FSU lenses because of the price, as I can't afford to be elitist about my glass right now.

Choices to be made (opinions welcome):
Which lens? I want a 50, preferably f/2 or faster. Right now I'm looking at the Jupiter 8, and the Industar-61 (55mm, and 2.8, but so sexy in panda). I'm open to sub $100 suggestions.

Where to buy? Fedka.com is more expensive, but more trustworthy (?). eBay is cheaper, but I'm wary of the dealers.

Do you live here in USA? Have you though about a J-3. I have a J-3 and I like it on my R. I have a couple of I 61s but haven't tried them on the bessa R. The ones I have seen are good. The J-8 is real good too.

Yeah, I'm in Oregon.

I've considered the J-3, but they are harder to find, and the (slight) gain in speed over the J-8 doesn't quite seem worth the money.

I agree, They are pretty high in price. I 61s are pretty cheap on ebay but it's the shipping cost from Russia and the long wait that is so bad. I ordered my R from Steven over the weekend and had it in like 3 days... Super fast.

I know lots of people rave about the I-61 but I would get the J-8. I like shooting in low-light, and I like the creamy images you get at f2.0. plus j8 looks better :)

An I-61 L/D will be a good and inexpensive beginning. A J-8 will give you the speed you want. Both will take a while to get to you from Russia or the Ukraine. You should consider Fedka, whose prices are higher but who is utterly reliable.

I would also look at some of the Canon lenses. The Canon Serenar 50/1.8 has been in-expensive and is a very nice lens on a Bessa.

Bessa R and Jupiter-8 are great together! The I61 is also very good, with noticeably different image quality from the J8.

Hi My Bessa R also arrived just today and as I had only a J 9 at my office that was the lens I baptized it with. Let's compare results! I won a black one on the bay and it was nearly new. I live in Austria and our pricing for Voigtländer products are really hurtfull some times: A Bessa R for 399€ (close to 500$!) and that a special eBay price! So let's enjoy it !

Good choice! I think I would like a J-8 over the I-61. I'm gonna have to try one of my I-61s on my R, but save up some money and get the 35/2.5 color skopar. This lens rocks on this camera. Mine rarely comes off. Trust me you'll love it.
