A Small Provocation

Inferior film made by communists was never the equal of capitalist film. Unless of course we capitalists decide to be artistic and use grain in our photographs. Communists could never have such luxurious choices under their system so all photos must be grainy.

Funny you should say that, Jan :) The one film I really wish was still available and which had the most beautiful, subtle grain when pushed, with both tonal richness and high contrast was Orwo NP27. I have found absolutely nothing like it. For the first time I've just shoot a roll of Fuji 1600 b&w and I would be amazed if it compared to what was sold as a bargain basement (East German) film (IIRC at around £11.00 for 10 in the late 80s, early 90s). There was something about it that rendered it just perfect for female portraits - I was greatly delighted when RFF'er Graski commented "pushed orwo for girl shot?! reminds me on my younger days!", as it seems I was not alone in this view :)

Cheers, Ian :)

The third one looks like a jolly hard way to make a great circle map! Thank the Lord for computer generated GCMs. Amateur radio ops. use them every day now and the center is wherever you specify. Nice picture tho.
