Hi,
Would it be possible to change the 0.72 finder of the M4-P with a 0.58? I have trouble seeing the 35mm frame in the 0.72 due to my wearing glasses but I don't want to get another M-Body. I also figured that the 0.58 bodies would be considerably more expensive than possibly changing the viewfinder.
Has anyone done it or seen it done? Price approximations would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Max

Any European based contacts that could do something like this?

Why not sell the M4-P and get a .58x M6? That way you won't have to cannibalize any of your Leicas, and you'll still end up with just one body.

I figured replacing the VF would be cheaper than getting an M6 with 0.58. Don't want another M. Not now.

A few years ago, I asked DAG and this wasn't even possible.
I think that things have changed and Leica are now selling RF assembly, but I'm not sure.
I also think that it makes much more sense to sell and buy an M6 0.58.
BTW, I use one and it's fantastic to see the whole frame, yep, even the 28....
Good luck

Here's a link for Hong Kong Supply on eBay for their eyepieces.
http://cgi.ebay.com/0-85-x-0-85x-fo...photoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
They are just under $50 US. I use one of these and it works fine. This is the 0.85x version which will bring your 0.72 down to what you want. They also sell the 1.25x to bring it up to a 0.85 finder mag. I use the 1.25x on my M7 with 0.85 finder with my 90mm lens. Frame lines are about the same as a shooting with a 50mm. Both with shipping should set you back about $100 US
Hope this helps. It's a lot cheaper than what you want to do, with no changes to your camera.

How about the RF patch? Is focus easy?

The Magnifier sounds great. I'll get one too, it would solve all the problems. Thank you

Much simpler than a 28mm add on Viewfinder.Oh my God... That's exactly what I've been looking for, eversince I got my 28mm. I just ordered one.

Easy Focus. Not much different then the 0.58 viewfinder. A little tunnel vision when using it, but I felt the same way using a Hexar RF. Images seem a little to distant with the RF or Leica 0.58 to me, but I'm most comfortable with the 0.85 viewfinder.
You guys should like it. Glad I could help.
shimo-kitasnap
everything is temporary..
I asked DAG if he could do that to my M6, $900 for the finder, $125 for labor, for that you might want to consider a .58 ttl or just live with .72
