while at the camera store today i finally remembered to ask about the new x100s...i had the x100 but traded it for another rd1 which i sold to get the fujis i now have...got it?

anyway...what a sweet camera! i'm not sure what the complaints about af speed are about, the demo was quick enough for some rapid firing in the store...the body is just about perfect in my hands and it was all i could do to not ask about a trade for my xe-1...

if anything would motivate me to find a job, getting this little camera might do it!!

I'm surprised you haven't bought a DPM ... kind of disappointing actually! :D

it sounds like too much work...plus it seems best for a slower process, like landscapes/still life...so it has very little appeal to me.

you guys get some lovely images though...

I'm thinking about getting the accessory finder, scale focusing and doing some street work!

Don't get the sigma ovf

I have the sigma vf for the dp1m and a Rollei for the dp2m. The sigma feels squinty to me compared to the bigger Rollei 40 ovf (which I think is a rebranded cv).,

I wish sigma would implement the Ricoh snap focus. It would be great for street.

The x100s seems to be great improvement to the original x100. It would most likely fit well with what u have these days... I still.have my x100. It just does not get used as much since I got the dp Merrill cameras.

The biggest advantage u are going to have w/ the x100 series compared to the xp1/xe1 is going to be that leaf shutter... It is so dead quiet, no one next to u will even know u took a picture.

i did like that quiet shutter...
but i would have to sell/trade something to get it and i really don't want to do that.

Check out the stuff Margus has been posting.. So good portrait work.. In terms of non-static shots... AF speed is slightly slower than x100.. Was it (the x100) good enough for your use in the street.. On the other hand, scale focus should be fine. I have some shots using af for street in the foveon thread. I can't remember right now if any are scale right now..

the slow buffer and low usable iso will still do your head in, trust me I've tried
at least the DP1 had one major redeeming feature for street work which was the manual focusing wheel, it was marked, it had a hard stop, stayed where you left it, perfect. With the merrills even that is gone.

But hey you get more pixels

Snap focus would be good but the time I tried the DPM scale focused I just set it in manual focus mode and read the distance scale off the LCD. It responded very quickly to rotation of the focus ring ... which is something I remember the X100 I had didn't.

manual focus on the x100s is more responsive than the x100 and way more responsive than the x100 without all the FUs installed.

I'd forgotten about that buffer issue ... it would do your head in I agree.

Then again how fast was HCB able to get off six or seven shots? :D

If u are shooting in large raw (45+mb) then there is a 7 shot buffer using medium raw u get a 9 shot buffer. W/ Merrill series u can do other things while buffer writes to sd card, except view the images.

In terms of iso, color good up to 400 (ymmv). But if u are shooting b&w, good up to around 800-1600 (ymmv) and if u don't mind playing around in spp mono mode tab using the color wheel, it looks pretty good at 3200-6400 depending on the type of shot.

The big issue is if u need 1600 at f2.8, u are iffy ground when it comes to af locking focus on anything, better off manual or zone focus after that.

I can where the focus wheel would be a plus... W/o it, I wish sigma would implement the Ricoh snap focus feature.

The color high iso issue is where the Fuji x series beats the dp Merrill hands down.

Try medium raw setting. 9 shots, raw file size is 22mb. Buffer drain is a bit faster. I tend to use medium size raw as my default.. Only use large raw when I c something worth the bigger file.

W/ the dp1m I would set snap focus to hyper focal. W/ the dp2m more like 10ft and f11.. B&w mode w/ max iso at 3200.

I hear they fixed the manual focus response issue on the x100s.

dunno... 10 seconds I guess? But then he'd have a massively slow buffer when he had to change rolls :D

add the 28mm (equiv) adapter and i have my 2 most used FLs. No leica necessary.

i don't have a leica...

are you saying to cull down to the essentials...one camera body and a couple of lenses along with the x100s?

i'm debating whether to get the 27 pancake to hook up with the xe-1 or selling a couple of lenses and the xe1 and getting the x100s.
