I am looking for lens shade, but am having trouble finding one. I think the thread is 36mm ?

does anyone know where I can find a Generic Shade ?
Do I need to get a step up ring ?
Or am I going to have to get (find) a Leitz Shade for this lens.

The thread is either 34mm (old) or 39mm (less old). The older Hektors used the adjustable FIKUS shade. Size A36, it is usually referred to as 'slip-on.' The FIKUS shade is really handy because it also fits 50 and 90 Elmars. And 50 and 100 Serenars. If it's 39mm, the correct Leica shade will cost more than the lens. Heavystar sells a similar shade cheaply and it screws in.

It is NOT 39mm, I had a 39mm ordered that came in today and is was too big.
Yes, Leitz Shade from HeavyStar was around $60.00 for the 39mm adjustable. I paid $34.00 for my Hektor on EBay. Optically it's Perfect. Body is in 7-8 rating.

So it is 34mm. Hummmm. FIKUS shade Slip on A36, Right?
Thanks

Correct - the LTM Hektor uses a A36 slip-on filters and hoods. It is however threaded for 34mm, which are available for some Canon lenses.

There is only one FIKUS - it fits the 50 LTM Elmar, 90 LTM Elmar and yes your 135 LTM Hektor. It is one lens hood for all three.

Those threads on the inner flange are for assembly and disassembly of the lens, not for filters. The thread count is different. The FIKUS is the one that is designed for it. I have a set of A36 filters that slip over the flang and then are tightened in place, in the same way the FIKUS does. The outer flange is 36mm so I guess if you could find a rubber hood that is made to slip on a 36mm diameter flange it would work. I haven't been able to find one. Let me know if you discover a source.

Hold on there! I have one of the older chrome Hektors with the 34mm filter ring and a 34mm Walz hood fits perfectly with the threads screwing all the way in quite smoothly. The hood is a bit of an odd looking thing as it flares out from the 34mm wasp waist to about 50mm at the outer edge and is about an inch long. The hood works very well on the Hektor, and also on the 90mm Elmar and 100mm Canon f3.5. I picked mine up at a camera show for $4.:D

The threads on the 5cm Summar, 9cm Elmar, and 13.5cm Hektor are most definitely for filters. I just screwed my FIOOC Gelbfilter 1 into my Hektor. They made a full line of such filters. (They also inter-work correctly with the Canon 34mm accessories.)

Sure, Leica sold more of the A36 filters, since they also fit the Elmar 3.5cm and 5cm lenses.

As for hoods, a tatty FIKUS will cost a lot less than the Canon 100mm hood, which is the only one that would be somewhat suitable.

The FIKUS is also fine for the 3.5cm Elmar, used fully collapsed. So one hood covers 4 different lenses.

What is a good price to pay for a FIKUS Hood ??

Who Sells these ?? How much are they ?

I picked up my FIKUS on ebay... if you are lucky you can find them for $20-$25. I have seen them go for more though. (working from memory here... haven't looked in quite a while)

If possible, try getting the FIKUS. My FIKUS came with my Hektor. I'm using it with my Industar-22 as well. Changing the aperture is a pain though but I mainly just set it at f5.6 or f8. The hood is quite versatile and when fully collapsed, it fits nicely in a coat pocket.

I picked mine up at a camera show used. It is marked "made in Japan" but I have no idea the actual source. It may be an older aftermarket hood that you can only find used, but it should be inexpensive when you do find one.

Thanks,

Found a place that has a few A36 geneic hoods. $19.00 USD includes S/H.
