Just found a 1945 US Army Issue Leitz Elmar f3.5 50mm lens #591xxx. (from Leitz Docket Oct. 1945) ~ This lens shoots very well with that classic sharp Leica Elmar look............

Here's some samples just shot a few hours ago with this lens on my Leica M8, with no postprocessing. ~ I think this lens has been greatly overlooked in recent years, due to it's lack of speed, but it was this very lens that cut the teeth worldwide for the company and made the Leica camera a legend.

I can't wait to try this lens out in some Digital Black & White Infrared, I know this will work out very well. 🙂

Here's a couple of Infrared snaps with Elmar f3.5/50mm #591xxx with the darkest of the A36 IR filters unassisted from my Leica M8.

Sorry for the dirty/filthy looking photos, I still haven't found an effective way to clean the sensor of my camera and everything over f4.5 is a challenge to shoot due to dust, dirt and spots on the final product. 🙁

Another Lens 1944 Elmar f3.5 50mm #582xxx

Another Lens 1944 Elmar f3.5 50mm #582xxx

Just picked up another wartime era Elmar f3.5/50mm lens today. 🙂 ~ A pretty rare 1944 issue one #582xxx from 20 November 1944, one of Leica's LAST WW2 deliveries.....

This lens has a slight touch of haze inside and I thought it would effect the photos, but the performance of this lens is almost identical to the 1945 lens I got yesterday.

It took me almost a year to find some really good condition late wartime 1944/45 era Elmar lenses, now my collection of Leitz WW2 era stuff is nearly complete.

I would suggest that if you like an "old fashioned" style and look about some of your photos, then don't turn a Elmar f3.5/50mm lens down, they were made from 1925 to 1961 (nearly 36 years!) and were the "mainstay-look" lens of the Screw Mount Leica era......

I'm STILL looking for a Xenon f1.5 and a Summitar f2 50mm 1943/45 era lenses.

*Coated or Uncoated* Xenon serial #491xxx and Summitar serial #577xxx to #581xxx *Coated* ~ If anyone here can help me locate one of these lenses, many thanks! 😀

Thanks Dave!

Yeah, the Summar is another lens that's overlooked often and mislabeled as a underperformer of the pre-war lens era, I sold mine which was a 1938 one that was mint minus and postwar coated, but it was a really good shooter you will be happy working with one. 🙂

Thank you very much, yes just playing around with snaps, I hope that I'll be shooting some PinUps with this lens soon. 🙂

Tom

I can't wait to see it! I rarely check the LTM side of the forum, so feel free to shoot me a message when you have 😀
