Hi all, I have two x 120 films to develop and I am almost out of Rodinal. I was going to use the same developer for the second film as I used on the first...how much extra time should I allow for the second film or should I wait till I get to buy some more chemical? Thanks. I seem to remember doing this years ago when I lived in the bush and developer was hard to come by..

Rodinal, I have no idea. With HC110, at a 30+1 dilution, I give the second batch 15 extra seconds is all. But I haven't done that for years. What kind of film, and do you intend to develop them differently?

It's been a long time, but everything I recall about Rodinol is that is should only, only, be used once. It uses a different base chemcial than the other developers that can be reused.

Hi - one film is an out-of-date Orwo NP20 which i found in a camera I had bought from Germany, the second is a roll of Shanghai 100asa film. Don't see too much of the HC-10 you mention, must have a look. Thanks for the comment

John,
I use Paterson tanks and that requires 500ml of mixed developer for each 120 film. With Rodinal at 1+50 you'll need a minimum of 10 ml of concentrate for each film = 20 ml in all. Rodinal is as far as I know strictly a one-shot developer and based on the small recommended quantity of concentrate it is almost certain that it will be close to the point of exhaustion when the film is developed. So it's not a good idea to try running a second film through it, even at lengthened times. I'd recommend getting some more developer!

Photo Continental in Brisbane don't show any chemicals on they website but it might be worth a call as they're local to you.

Les Porter Photography is showing Ilford Chemicals in his price list and he's certainly worth talking to - he usually has some stock and a very good next day Express delivery through Australia Post. Ilfotec LC29 can be reused in the same processing session if mixed at dilutions of 1+9 or 1+19, but not at the higher dilution of 1+29.
Or you could get a packet of ID-11 but if you're not using much it's not worth it as the stock solution will "go off" after a month or two thus negating the apparent savings over the liquid developers. But you can use ID-11 stock solution more than once by pouring the used developer back into the stock solution bottle, then measuring out the quantity (500ml) for the second film and adding 10% to the time for the second film (due to the "mix" not being as potent as the original stock solution). Then discard it.

Just yesterday I developed a roll of Fomapan200 (120) in 5ml R09 (Rodinal "one shot") + 465 ml water (about 1:100) for 40 minutes stand (with 1. Minute agitation), temp was about 19 degrees C. Film came out nicely and scanned well.

was my favourite but is getting hard to get.PhotoContinental have reduced their stock of chemistry so will go into the city today to see what is available. Looks like Rodinal is a once-only developer - thanks for the opinions. Happy shooting!

If you have 6 mL of Rodinal you have enough to develop both films without reusing the developer. 18-20 mins in Rodinal 1+100 is fine for almost all films.

Both films are now up and drying. The Shanghai images look good but the film base appears a little grey...the other film was an out-of-date ORWO film I found in a recent purchase. Both films got 18 minutes in a 6 + 95 Rodinal but the Orwo is quite grey and looks over-developed..I like the weaker dilution Marty, and will continue to use it on the next roll, a Lucky b/w film. Thanks for the input friends.
