Hi,

The box and labels on my bottle of rodinal have successfully scared me into believing Rodinal is not the safest chemical around the house ;) I'm concerned about dumping the waste down the sink. I researched via google and pnet, and found most people don't seem to care, sighting high dilution rates. What doesn't make sense is that it doesn't take very much (kinda like photoflo, 1 drop to a couple hundred ml). The box and labels basically state not to introduce into the environment.. so.... should I store up the waste and then have some professionals get rid of it?

I tried out my first run at fomapan 200 in rodinal. Couldn't find any helpful recipes/agitations for it.. any tips? I'll run several rolls at 1+50 for 10 mins, first 30s agitate, then 5 inversions @ min, just to get used to it. I'll welcome helpful tips with Rodinal or Xtol! :)

Thanks!

oh, and you can buy this same film renamed as "Arista.Edu Ultra 200" for half the price.

Thanks. That is the film I bought, I used its more common name.

Rodinal is unsafe to handle, but the main danger is sodium (or potassium) hydroxide, which is used in much higher concentrations as a drain cleaner. The main reducing agent is toxic in very high doses, so that may be an environmental concern. I pour the developer off into a bucket with the first fixer rinse and take it to a hazo collection site, for free. Subsequent rinses go down the sink.

The fact that my septic drainfield isn't glowing purple and my neighbors haven't contracted neurological defects doesn't mean much, and taking precautions are worthwhile, even on speculative info. IMHO.

Thanks. I live within 5 min from the beach, last thing I want to do is screw up both the wildlife there and my ability to surf there!

If you drink straight rodinal you maight be in trouble...
but at 1+25 or higher dilution is fine..... also, dumping it down the toilet should be fine, just like adding 1/8 tsp of drano crystals or so

The cyclic organic dev reagent and the KOH together are not good for repeated skin contact, they can predispose to cancer. Most of the other photo dev cyclic organics are the same...

Dont use in food kitchen. Wear rubber gloves or rinse off and wash hands in soap after any contaiminisation.

It is at the level of - when out in sun wear a hat.

R Reagan had a wooden puppet job on his nose, because of too many 2nd takes in his B movies while playing a cowboy. You dont want to be unlucky with the upper case skin 'C'.

As far as drinking Rodinal goes, it makes me feel grainy if I take it straight, but at 1:100 I am sharp and my cellular tonal scale and micro-contrast are really, really smooth, baby ... oh yeah.
