In the very early morning, just hours after myself and my friend Brad arrived in Edgewood, New Mexico at the end of a trip from Philadelphia to New Mexico we got up, made some coffee, warmed up the 1973 220D and drove into Albuquerque to attend the 2013 Balloon Fiesta.
Thankfully, it wasn't a moist evening the night prior since so often the grass on the field is crunchy with frost. The temperature at 4:30 when we arrived was about 38 degrees.
After another cup of coffee and a breakfast burrito, the balloon crews began to roll out their rigs and blow them up with fans.
The dawn patrol got up in the air first to check the winds and once everyone got a green flag, the Fiesta was really on.
These are most of the images that made it through my edit.

Great shots. I especially like how they make me feel like I'm there rather than watching from afar, like most other shots of this event I've seen.

Nice photos!
We were driving Route 66 across from Chicago to Santa Monica and arrived in Abuquerque the day after this had finished. Really disappointed but at least we'd seen a rodeo in Tucumcari the previous evening.....
