21/3.4 Super Angulon Filter Advice!

Hello all,

I have a 21/3.4 SA on its way to me and i just wanted to pick the brains of those who have experience of the lens. I understand that I can use either a series VII or 48mm filter, my question is, which is preferable? Does the 48mm filter vignette at all? Can I fit the hood with a filter screwed in? I shoot predominantly black & white and am also wondering how the lens responds to orange or red filters?

Thanks, Simon.

hello simon
i use the series VII filter without problem. it fits inside the lens shade, and is held in place when the lens shade is mounted on the lens.
i use the lens primarily on an M8, so black & white "filter" effects are added in post-processing (nik silver efex).
cheers

It works either way, series vii in the hood or E48 screw-in with and without hood. Dark corners are always there with this lens, especially with color-slide film.

Enjoy your new lens and don't forget to post some shots !! 🙂

Thanks guys! I think I'll use the series VII as I have an orange one that came with my 35 Summilux pre asph. I was just interested in the alternatives (I wish the summilux gave a choice!) available... I have read in the sticky thread above that the lens really performs with orange or red filters, I'll try it out and post some shots! Very exciting!

This was taken with a yellow (if I remember correctly... could also have been red ...)
