I reciently purchased a 28mm M-Rokkor on ebay, knowing that it had spots. It is a very common coating error. I recieved the lens this morning at 10am. It had lots of little white spots. Low and behold, by 4pm the spots had disappeared completely. I don't know exactly what fixed the spots, but I have my theories oh what fixed it......

A drafty window
Holding it in your warm hand for a while
Cycling through warm and cold temperatures several times
Magic Pixies

If anyone else has this lens and has experienced a similar thing, I would be nice to hear what fixed your spots, and if there is a correlation that can help others.

My money is on magic pixies.
Where were the spots? The one spotty sample I've seen had a ring of concentric spots behind the front element. They looked uniform enough to be intentional. I notice KEH seems to have several and has been dropping their prices.
Has anyone compared the Minolta 2.8 side by side with the Voigtlander 28/3.5 as far as resolution, contrast and handling?

If I can remmember, I will post some pics taken with the lens when I am finished with the roll of film. Someone else will have to post pics from the vc 28/3.5. So far handling of the lens is really nice. It has a small "swing" and it is extremely light.

Wow. That seems crazy. Can I send mine to you and have you hold it?
I got one recently at Tamarkin and it has the spots, but they don't seem to affect picture quality. I haven't really used it much yet (one roll) so I haven't formed an opinion. Previously I was using the VC 28mm 1.9 with a LTM>M adapter on my CLE and I love that lens.

These are just some test shots

Looks nice. Very much like the lovely rounded 40/2 M-Rokkor tones and rendering. I have the VC 28/3.5 and it's a little more clinical and edgy looking -- more like a Nikon lens than the classic Minoltas. Thaks for posting them. There are a couple VC photos in my portfolio here.
That's RPI, right?

This evening I used my Rokkor 28mm indoor, during a birthday party and the white spots, that formed a neat circle all around the lens before, were gone!. I'm pretty sure the spots were still there the last time I used the lens less than a week ago. In between it had been sitting in my camera bag in the garage.

Yep, that is RPI. How did you know?

I'm looking for one of these. I read somewhere the white spots were possibly a bad inner lens coating that started flaking off over the years causing the white spots. Any truth to that?
