Hello, do any of you know why Zeiss-Ikon had a Nr. 422 30mm external viewfinder ? It looks very similar to the 432/5 35mm finder, but I can't remember of any well known 30mm lens in the Carl Zeiss catalog, and I think they also had a specific finder for the 28mm lenses. Any one has some infos ?
Cheers!

I have the Zeiss 30mm finder. I have had it for 28 years. It was sold to me, because after buying the 28 Elmarit at the time, I didn't have enough cash for the Leitz finder. Nothing else was available then. It served me well until somehwere along the way, the front element got cracked. I never bothered in all these years to research it.

So it was possibly made to provide an alternative before 28mm finders were made ?

No. It was made for some lens that I have never seen. The finder was cheap and close enough to the angle of view for a 28.

I think that this 30mm finder was probably made for some other camera in the Zeiss-Ikon stable, not the Contax. I am currently at work, but will look it up in one of my old ZI catalogs if no one provides a positive ID before I get the chance.

I checked my 5 zeiss ikon and contax reference books and also my old ZI catalog from the 1930s, and did not see a 30mm finder, or the 422 catalog number. I would be interested in learning what camera this finder fits, if anyone can identify it.

The 422 is for the Contina III.
