Yeah, but at my age it's getting hard to even see those darn little cards! I don't mind changing batteries though.

I had tested the Transcend 4GB SC card on my R-D1. Can not work well. R-D1 seems does not support FAT32.

FAT32 may not be the problem. I use 1GB SD cards formatted to FAT32 on the PC without difficulty. It could be that the R-D1 doesn't support cards over 2GB.
There is a 2GB limit on some Canon SLRs when using SD that we are waiting for a firmware update to fix. The reason Canon give is that the standards for 4GB and larger cards have only just been agreed. Not all present 4GB SD cards are built to the same interface standard.
