I just bought one in great shape for $250. Strange story: I was talking to Don, the fellow who sold me the IIIf, about a 50mm Elmar he had for sale. I thought about his lens, asked you guys about the Elmar, Ultron, and Summicron, and wrote Don back about my desire for a Summicron. Don, very altruistically, told me about a Summicron for sale at a camera shop local to him. He even went to check it out its condition for me and provided the contact information. Needless to say I'm very grateful to him.
My purchases are now complete. I don't need anything else!
I just need to figure out how to tell my wife about it.
I just hope this lens performs better than the colapsible Summicron in the lens test written up recently on photonet.

Frank -- I think you will like it. I just got one too, (and for a lot more than yours! Lucky devil...is that Canadian dollars?). I think it is an incredible lens. I had a thread on it a few days back if you missed it...

I can identify with half of that statement. I haven't "needed" anything more for a long time but I'm still buying!
I sure wish the postman would deliver my Moskva-4 soon. I really want to compare it to my Super Ikomat. Now, about that Super Ikonta A I want (and don't really need).

Frank, remember: "Honey, look what they found at work! Some Old Lenses! And they told me they don't want them anymore because they are so old!!!"
I do not consider my Purchases complete until they are delivered. And no, I have not needed anything in a long time!
Okay, get ready for the big Canon 50 F1.8 vs Summicron 5cm F2 Shootout!

Well, if you get the fuzzy eyeball from Lady S just shoot me a note, I can delay the Bessa and send it at a better time.
It's not here yet by the way.

Heh. Congrats, Frank.
Honestly, after getting the Contax myself, i also feel i don't need anything more. I don't even look for more gear on the Net. I'm happy about it.
Ok, i still need some small things like lens caps, hoods and film of course.

Somebody here said it but can't recall his name now...
"One only needs one (more) camera"
Needless to say, I now want a 'good' 50 as well !

Stuart, that was $250 US dollars, but shipping included.
Brian, my 50mm lens shoot out will include the Summicron (thanks Don, not here yet), Canon f1.8 (thanks Brian, not here yet), Jupiter 8 (thanks Kin), and Industar 61 (thanks Joe).
Ralph, the Bessa R will ship to my work so please don't delay it once it arrives.
Hey Taffer, that was me! (You've got a good memory.)

Good news on several fronts!
Brian's Canon 50mm f1.8 arrived today with front and rear caps, a yellow filter, and in stunningly beautiful shape. Thank you Brian for letting this one slip through your fingers!
The Bessa R is on it's way to me via Ralph. I confirmed today that the seller recieved my payment.
I called the camera shop selling the Summicron and the salesman chuckled when I asked him if I could pay by postal money order instead of credit card so my wife would not see the credit card transaction.
More good news: I decided to put my foot down and suggested to my wife tonight that I buy my own Christmas present because I know exactly the lens I wanted, and she agreed. Now I can order with the credit card and speed up the shipping of the Summicron.

One more thing: I had a few "irons in the fire", looking for a Leica 50mm lens. I had emailed IgorCamera (www.igorcamera.com) as they had the following lenses advertized for prices that I think are pretty good. He did not get back to me until later today after I did the deal for the Summicron so I'm not interested, but someone else may be.
SM Summitar 5cm/2 #723071, EX+ $195.
SM Elmar 5cm/3.5 #603294, coated, cap, EX+ $165.
Nikkor-S 5cm/1.4 #327058, EX $250

Nikkor-S 5cm/1.4 #327058, EX $250

And there is a very nice looking LNIB silver Elmar-M (2 months old) for sale over on photo.net. Pictures here.
GO CANADA MAIL!!!
I am glad the lens arrived safely. Need a Camera and Coffee shot, and some shots in the gallery. I will be looking forward to the Shoot-out.
I think the 50mm F2 Summicron was the best pick, especially at $250.
