I love my Jupiter-3 too. Though mine does suffer from back focus on my Leica bodies.
I use the J-3 a lot on my R-D1 where it does not have this problem, strangely enough.

THe J-3 is one of my favorite lenses. Even when I sold all my rangefinder gear, I kept it - figuring I would one day get another RF.
And now that I just bought another M8, I can get back to using it.

Thanks for taking the time to do the report, and posting some excellent examples. I also use mine on my M9, though I tend to cycle through my 50s. (I'm currently alternating between a borrowed Nikon 59mm F1.4 and my modern Zeiss 50 1.5.) I found your comparison of sharpness to the CV F1.1 interesting, especially since the Jupiter is a little smaller:)
Interestingly, my Jupiter focuses fine on my M9, whereas, alas, my Nokton does not.

Thanks, appreciate you taking the time out to read it. I'm in the 50 Lux cycle at the moment so I know what you mean, it's proving difficult to break out of :) I'd take the Nokton 50/1.1 over the Jupiter if I had to choose but it gives it a run for its money and its way lighter....

Yes, its more than a little frustrating when a lens doesn't focus as you'd hope....

Cheers, Jason

Great read! I also love my Jupiter 3 that was way off on leica screw mount bodies that I somehow managed to get it in focus and reduce minimum focus to about 0.7m. One thing I really like is that it shows this "glow" at wide open when there are side lighting while it is perfectly sharp when there is no light coming from the side. Also, as you mentioned, very sharp starting from f/2.

Thanks, I'd be really happy with .7m thats a result. Good to hear of others enjoying the lens too.

Cheers, Jason.
