I own a 4th version 50mm Summicron that was made in Canada. I have been contemplating selling it and gave it a thorough "exam" which revealed a perfect finely etched circle about 2-3mm in and parallel to the edge of an internal element. At first, the nasty thought of separation came to mind  but this is not that - it looks like it could have occurred during manufacture. I have owned the lens for about 16 years and never noticed it before and am confident that it does not effect image quality but it might effect the value of the lens. Has anybody seen this in other samples? Thanks for your help and comments.

Etching or scratches in any lens will be of less value to a knowledgeable buyer for that particular lens regardless if it affects the image. A sumimicron 50 is a decent lens. It might be worth the effort to take/send it someone like DAG if you are in the US and have him evaluate it. Dan Goldberg is good at what he does and is reasonable in price.
