When did TMY-2 400 hit $7.49 per roll?

That's a shame. It's a brilliant film, but that's a little steep if you're burning through several bricks a month on a project...

The problem is that this turns in to a circular firing squad.

The price goes up, and less people shoot it.
The lower demand drives up the price, so even less people shoot it.
Then one day it's gone.

I guess I'll just have to cut back a little, instead of dropping it completely, but this doesn't make my life any less complicated.

Over here (Europe) it seems to be between between five and six dollars, including taxes. Are there recent Kodak price-rises which haven't filtered through over here yet? Fortunately I only use a couple of Kodak products, the Portra films, so don't keep track of the black-and-white news. However, Ilford Delta 400 appears to be about the same price that you quoted for TMax though.

In the UK it's about £3.75 for a 35mm roll or £18 for 5 120 here which is cheap (about the same at 2.5L petrol or a little more than a pint of beer for a single roll)
Is that the absolute cheapest you can find it?
If not a bulk order from UK or Europe might make sense...

The good news is that Arista 400 Premium aka Tri-X is still $2.69 a roll. Freestyle must sell that stuff by the truckload, because every time I drop by to restock, they are restocking. It sure would be nice if they sold TMY-2 400 under some fancy name for a discount.

TMY-2 400 is a really great film. I'm a dyed in the wool Tri-X shooter, but there are days when I long for the fine grain of TMY-2 400. It really is impressive that Kodak managed to make a 400 asa film, that has grain as fine as a traditional 100 asa stock. If I could nitpick anything about it, it's that I prefer the spectral response of Tri-X.

Yes, Ilford is more expensive than Kodak in Europe. Delta is 30% more than T-Max.

I don't shoot much BW, but I always liked Delta 100 (never tried Delta 400). I just tried a roll of T-Max 400 for the first time and liked it for some shots and not that much for others. I only have HC-100 so I used that. Maybe something else would've worked better? The only other developer I tried was Xtol and I liked it better than HC-110, but I feel I should use what I have. The problem is that HC-110 bottle I have is going nowhere. Seriously, I think it's filling up and not depleting 😉

How is T-Max 100 vs. Delta 100? Are they fairly similar?

I buy the majority of my film and darkroom supplies from Freestyle but have been looking more closely at B&H the past few months. Some of the stuff I buy can be had for substantially less at B&H. Plus, shipping-wise, NY is much closer to Michigan than California. It is nice to have two choices!

I don't think Calumet is in California, maybe it isn't the carbon tax.

I think they have a store or two in California (based in Chicago, and also has store in New York and some in the UK). The US stores all charge the same prices though. I wonder why its so costly; other Kodak films didn't seem that high, and B&H is still selling it cheap.
